If you cycle to work

And use pannier racks, how is it? Do you feel off centred? I’ve never used them and have a light weight road bike. I cycle about 30 miles in total there and back but my bag is annoying me. I’d only need them on one side but worried I’d feel like I was tipping over!

I don’t currently cycle to work, but I have a lot in the past (on a road bike), usually with a single pannier. It’s been fine, try it. Or get a rack top bag?

I used to cycle to work and only used one pannier. Its fine, never felt lopsided.
Still only use one pannier even now I cycle for pleasure.

I have a short 8 mile commute now so just use a rucksack and leave stuff at work but back in the days when I had a 30 mile round trip and no car, I used one pannier or two if I was doing a food shop. I thought I’d find it weighty on one side but you can’t really tell when riding, although as I dismount to the left I always put the single pannier on the right. Ortlieb ones are really good.

Thanks so much - really useful!

We hot desk at work, which is annoying because I have to lug everything in with me like toiletries and make up, which would lessen what I have to bring in.

I have front panniers and use both sides and just split stuff between as I was worried about being unbalanced

I have one pannier on one side and it makes no difference cycling at all and I much prefer it to using a backpack. The only time it feels lopsided is when I'm trying to prop my bike up against a wall Grin

Do you have changing rooms or just loos? If the former, could you lobby for a set of lockers? It’s been a game changer for us (apart from having a v expensive Parlux hairdryer stuck in mine during lockdown!).
