Low carb white bread

Morning everybody,
I wonder if anybody could recommend a low carbohydrate white bread I could purchase in a supermarket. It’s for my partner who had had Covid and is monitoring blood sugar levels after taking steroids. We are hoping he does not sustain diabetes permanently. He is not a big bread eater but likes a slice with soup or with an egg for breakfast. He dislikes sandwiches and has soup or a salad for lunch.
I know the accepted wisdom is wholemeal bread but he hates it.
Would anybody know a low carb white bread? Sourdough?
I’m able to get to Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Aldi, Lidl and Marks.

I’m type 2 & eat a low carb diet. Seeded bread tends to be white Aldi’s seeded bread or warburtons is nice. If he doesn’t like seeded then I’d go for a sourdough. Unfortunately some type 2s can’t tolerate any bread.

Just seen you can get to Lidl they do a low gi bread & rolls in their bakery, so you could try that too. Also tinned soup tends to be full of sugar & carbs.

Thank you @IggyAce, yes we were shocked to find how much sugar there was in tinned soup. I made my own yesterday and he enjoyed it so we will go with that. I’m going to be doing a lot more cooking from scratch. I don’t think he would like the seeded bread, May have to try sourdough. Thank you very much for the pointers though!

And I’m a 10 minute walk from Lidl so will check out their bakery. Do the rolls/bread have a specific name?

@TheDuchessofDukeStreet they are just labelled as low gi. The sourdough is nice from the Lidl bakery too.
Yes cooking from scratch is key and loving eggs helps too. If he’s after something different for lunch then look at making a frittata, I often make one to use up the veg in the fridge.

Have you looked at keto recipes OP? There are some good ideas on Diet Doctor website. When I eat seeded sourdough, I tend to make sure it's with protein and fats. Not with other carbs. So a thin slice with cream cheese and ham, or with eggs. Having eaten low carb intermittently for years, I wouldn't feel great after eating it with just more carbs I think. It comes naturally to balance it out now.

Thank you all for the advice. I had not considered the avoidance of bread with other carbs so that’s useful to know.

I’d second the Diet Doctor website. I love the microwave mug bread. Wishing I’d made that for lunch now with tuna!!

Also, and this is how my body reacts - low GI bread pushes my blood sugars right up (except for a Lidl low-GI bread roll that has now been discontinued, grrrr!!)
