Why the sullen look?

I've just been on Zara looking for some clothing inspiration and am shocked at the miserable sullen models staring back at me.
Why are they so pissed off?
Miserable fucked off bitch isn't a look i'm trying to achieve. Is Zara trying to catch the mood of the nation, because yes I feel miserable due to lockdown life but was looking for something new to wear to lift my mood. All that website screams at me us ...we're miserable and pissed off.

I am not at all sure what the reasoning is behind this sullen model look either. Surely wearing lovely clothes and looking great in them would make them smile.
Obviously I am missing a very vital point. Rolls eyes as can't be arsed to do the cut and paste emoji thingy.

What's the target market for Zara? If it's teenagers I think this would hit the mark nicely, my teenager seems to think smiling is a sign of weakness. Or worse, of being gen X.

bellropes · 21/02/2021 20:33

They're probably instructed to look cool and edgy. In reality they just look miserable and like they'd punch your lights out if you accidentally trod on their foot 🙄

I feel by looking at the website the models are about to say "what the fuck are you staring at?"

I'm obviously not cool or miserable enough (despite lockdown) to shop at Zara.

Here's some more edgy looks that leave me totally uninspired.

Smiling models who are happy with their outfits is more for the older uncool brands.

AppleKatie · 21/02/2021 21:04

The look ridiculous they aren’t selling what they are wearing that’s for sure. I mean coat over head and slumped over to sell a cami?

It’s so bad I’d laugh except they all look like they’d come to life and murder me in my bed for laughing at them.

OldRailer · 21/02/2021 21:07

Quite funny, thanks!

HopeClearwater · 21/02/2021 21:08

Well the one in the OP in the lilac woolly thing is in a bad mood because she hasn’t eaten since 2019...

Plonque · 21/02/2021 21:08

Do you know what pisses me off? Fucking posing like that!
I want to see how the dress hangs, see its features, how long it is etc.
None of which can be seen when models are squatting, crouched or slumped ffs.
And EVERYWHERE seems to have adopted this shitty style of presentation!!

nopulp · 21/02/2021 21:11

This is why I don't shop online at Zara. The models look ridiculous, I can't tell what the clothes actually look like, and I find the site layout unfriendly.

nopulp · 21/02/2021 21:12

Plus every model they use is eleventy feet tall and I am tiny so I it makes it seem like nothing would fit me.

gigity · 21/02/2021 21:24

I don't know why but it works, look at Zara/Inditex see figures.

gigity · 21/02/2021 21:24

sales not see

Love51 · 21/02/2021 21:27

Lockdown.

justgivejackie · 21/02/2021 21:29

Zara always have models looking miserable and doing weird poses, I was looking at a top once and the model was doing the splits - I just wanted to see what the top looked like on Confused
