Where to find army contact

My father passed away. His funeral plan stated that he would like his beret from his National Service on the coffin. I have not found the beret anywhere in his tiny flat. In fact I've never seen it, but have seen his medal etc. Does anyone know if it's possible to obtain one? I would really like to follow his wishes.

Do you know which regiment he was in? You can then get his beret and his cap badge, either metal or cloth to sew in, from a range of specialist retailers. Try this place - www.regimentalshop.com/collections/military-berets

There is also a retailer called Buttons & Badges or similar together with specific regimental shops. About 30 years ago some of the gentleman's outfitters in regional towns would stock local regimental attire - ties, cufflinks and badges. Those are mostly now closed down but even Amazon is not bereft of choice.

Do you know what cap badge/regiment your father served with during his National Service?

You should be able to order a beret of the right colour fairly easily. The cap badge itself may be more tricky if he served with a now extinct regiment.

Thank you both - for some reason he requested his army records about 5 years ago, so I should be able to find out some details on there. I didn't know I could buy a beret etc. I really don't want to get it wrong though ...

I've also posted this on the Elderly Parents board
