When you you take your outside Christmas lights down? My neighbours' are still up and I'm sick of seeing them. I wouldn't mind so much, but they're actually really crap Christmas lights.
I love Christmas, like really love it. But it's February ffs!!

We still have ours up but they are not really Xmas themed, just some outdoor hanging solar power lanterns on the trees in the front garden.

PussyCatInChristmasStockings · 21/02/2021 19:52

Mine are still up around my conservatory. If my neighbours have an issue with that, they can close their curtains.🤷🏻‍♀️
They'll be up for at least another month or 2 and will be put back up in September.

I've really, really noticed this year (probably because I'm walking around a lot) that many, many houses have left decs up.

I live in a small city, and no matter which streets I walk, I see this daily.

I assumed that it made people feel a little cheery at a shit time

I agree. And there were so many more lights this year in my village. They went up much earlier than normal, which was lovely, as gave everyone something to smile about at the end of a rubbish year. But spring is round the corner now so surely it's time to put Christmas behind us and look forward to a better year?

It's only 307 days until Christmas...what's the point in taking them down now? Grin
Someone on our estate had a 6 foot long, 3d sleigh led light thingy on a ramp on his lawn until June one year.
A few fairy lights are tame in comparison to that.

MNerGoneRogueAgain · 21/02/2021 21:07

@doodlebug33 it's not that I don't get what you.mean, and fwiw, my decs were down by the 31st.
But I think people need to do what they need to do to get through this

You make a valid point. I'll stop moaning and leave them to it 😊

I'm leaving the ones in my tree up in my front garden. They look so pretty.

mogtheexcellent · 21/02/2021 21:21

We have tasteful lights on our porch. We will be taking them down at the end of the month. We only kept up as I am fed up hunting for the keyhole on the dark.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 21/02/2021 21:23

Ours are still up (a simple rope light along the guttering) but not on. Didn’t see the point of getting them down.

NannyGythaOgg · 21/02/2021 22:13

All my indoor decs are down but I am still switching the white lights on my 'Winter' tree on every night and have vowed to do so until the clocks change. I also have coloured lights in my bedroom window - long drops of those copper lights. They are staying - although most nights they are on for 5 minutes at most.

WhispersOfWickedness · 21/02/2021 22:32

I drove past a house in the early evening the other day that still had its curtains open and they still had their Christmas tree up!
I have to confess, my outdoor tree lights were on until late January this year because they have battery powered lights on and I wanted to use the batteries up 😄

SpringisSpinning · 21/02/2021 22:35

Mine are still up, will come down when clocks go back

Tigertigertigertiger · 21/02/2021 22:36

They are probably a permanent feature !

ParkheadParadise · 21/02/2021 22:39

When out on our boring daily walk dd is bloody thrilled to reach the house with it's massive Christmas tree still up at their living room window.🎄🎄

LegendDairy · 21/02/2021 22:43

Lights are still up and on but they're just lights not really Christmas themed and in the back garden so I can see them.

OrigamiOwl · 21/02/2021 23:05

If they are a hassle getting to and down I can see why people leave them up.

We've recently moved and today I noticed that the previous occupants have left a string of lights up in the guttering. They look pretty entwined with the plants they grew up the wall of the house (wisteria and something else currently unidentified) so won't be an easy job to get down. At the moment they can just stay up.

bubblebubblebubbletrouble · 21/02/2021 23:10

My kids asked me for some for front garden this week so ours have just gone up! (solar though and don't seem to work very well 😉)

Doyouwantanothercuppa · 21/02/2021 23:12

Several houses round here with wreaths on the door. Christmassy wreaths. Why??

happymummy12345 · 23/02/2021 00:44

I'm superstitious so usually mine only ever goes up the first weekend in December, and always comes down on the 6th January.
However due to circumstances this time I didn't actually get to finish the tree and turn it on until Christmas Day, I didn’t finish it properly so I was happy with it (doing the last move of lights, making sure it looks right and securing the leads to the table leg so they can't be seen. Tree has to go on a table because of the height of the window) until Boxing Day, and we, well I just hadn't had long enough to enjoy it and couldn’t take it down on the 6th. So I left the tree up until Candlemas on the 2nd February. Not even sorry. (Everything else, cards, sons Father Christmas sign from the window, ornaments and decorations were away though on the 6th January). Intended to start closing the shutters again when I felt we’d subjected the neighbours to it enough. But we never did ).
I always miss it when I have to take it down, the room feels so empty and dark.
