What is this and do I need it?

This grey rubber seal has been in my cutlery drawer for 5 or 6 years. I can’t remover what it’s from but I know that the moment I throw it away, I’ll need it. Does anyone recognise what it might be from? If I can identify it as being from something I don’t have any more, then I can get rid of it!

Could be from a piggy bank/money box?

BikeRunSki · 21/02/2021 14:46

Ah. Good thought. Might be actually. I’ll go and check the ones boxes.

Dishwasher where you put the liquid in.

BikeRunSki · 21/02/2021 15:37

Not money boxes.

Could be from the dishwasher.

The rubber is very thin, much thinner than you’d expect.

If it's been in a drawer for 6 years I highly doubt you're going to need it

NotWithMyShoes · 21/02/2021 16:12

Does it hide the battery of your kitchen scales?

BikeRunSki · 21/02/2021 16:12

But @BlissLi, the moment I throw it away I’ll need it!!

If you throw something away after six years, then on six years plus one day you find out why you needed it

I cannot throw anything like this away. However if I was to need any of these weird bits, I could never find them again. My life is full of unknown bits.

horridhorrid · 21/02/2021 17:31

It is an absolutely vital component of something or other.

Dispose of it at your peril.

AnneKipanki · 21/02/2021 17:33

Lid of a plastic beaker or tub .

BikeRunSki · 21/02/2021 18:18

Exactly @Tommika and @horridhorrid.

I was kind of hoping someone would say “Ah yes, that is part of xxxxx appliance” and I be able to say “Ah, we no longer have xxxxx appliance, I can throw this strange rubber thing away with confidence”.

Have you looked in the dishwasher because it looks exactly like the one in mine as I said?! Otherwise no idea.

BikeRunSki · 22/02/2021 09:13

@Furgggggg12, I’ve looked at the dishwasher, it’s not from this one, but there was a different dishwasher in the house when we bought the house, which packed up shortly after we moved in. My suspicions are that it is from the old dishwasher. Is yours a Smeg by any chance??

Furgggggg12 · 22/02/2021 09:35

No it's an integrated Zanussi!

I think bin it Grin Go wild Grin

BikeRunSki · 22/02/2021 09:38

Ah!! The existing dishwasher is an integrated Zanussi! I’ll keep it!

I've got something similar but its round. It's a lid that I use on my handheld blender beaker so I can store smoothies etc in the fridge.

BikeRunSki · 22/02/2021 17:56

@Furgggggg12 is the winner!

It’s the lid to the rinse aid compartment of the dishwasher. We never use rinse aid as our water is so soft! DH recalls that we got a sample with the dishwasher and have never used it since. I didn’t even realise that that little door even opened - it took a few goes.

I shall sleep soundly tonight.😊
