I normally shop at Lidl but theres an Aldi just as close. Favourite things from either? I find myself buying the same things a bit, was considering next shop at Aldi for bit of a change!

I don't have either near me, but whenever I go to one probably every couple of months, I have a mental list of "must haves"
Aldi washing tablets are great.
Lidl baked camenbert
I haven't tried it yet, but there was a thread on aibu a few days ago where lots of people were raving about Aldi Prawn & White Wine Salmon Wellington - new to my list!
Lidl croissants beat all other supermarket croissants I've tasted, fluffy and crispy at the same time (mostly - sometimes they look a bit underbaked, and I leave them on those days, always a disappointment).
Lidl "deluxe" pizza range- there's a lovely veggie one with artichoke and olives, and another with chargrilled vegetables. They're oval rather than round, and work quite well if you cook half at a time. - they're quite big.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 21/02/2021 11:35

*they're oval

BunnyRuddington · 21/02/2021 11:39

DH is a bit addicted to the French Blend coffee from Lidl and their Madeira cake is a good teen filler Smile

Elieza · 21/02/2021 11:52

It’s not good, but Aldi’s lacura hot cloth cleanser with muslin cloth for a couple of quid is very similar to the liz Earle one at ten times the price. Aldi’s doesn’t smell quite so nice but for a product you just wash off that the scent doesn’t linger it’s a no brainier for me Grin

I didn't see the thread, intrigued about what could be unreasonable about a salmon dish, but I did buy one a couple of weeks ago and found it dry and pretty tasteless I definitely wouldn't buy one again.

People have different tastebuds, no way to tell if you'll like something on the basis that someone else does

LagneyandCasey · 21/02/2021 12:04

Can I be first to say all the cheese. Especially the extra mature cheddar - Aldi

Aldi brioche loaf

Aldi Greek yogurts with strawberry layer

Aldi stir fry kits, in the chiller section are great for quick dinners.

Lidl's coffee in the silver tin with orange lid.

Lidl dishwasher tabs

Lidl perfume

Lidl 19p breakfast rolls - from the bakery

Chihuahuacat · 21/02/2021 12:10

Aldi deluxe quadruple chocolate cookies. I don’t even normally like chocolate cookies but they are divine

Cheeseandlobster · 21/02/2021 12:10

Lidl sausages - plain pork ones. They dont have any of that chewy nasty stuff you get in so many others

Lidl chocolate. No palm oil! The white chocolate with strawberry crisp is amazing.

Aldi caviar cream - its a La Prairie dupe and has done well in blind tests

Aldi and Lidl lager n gin.

Starisnotanumber · 21/02/2021 12:12

Aldi magnum sensitive washing up liquid.
Aldi skin on fries from freezer.
Aldi specially selected individual steak pies from freezer section.

Calmyertits · 21/02/2021 12:13

The oval pizza is a favourite, i always get the ham and mushroom one. With a handful of extra cheese thrown on top. The garlic new potatoes are always a nice. Oh and the millionaire shortbread slices always get inhaled by DP! The frozen individual pies are nice aswell, chicken and chorizo or steak and stilton

I like the Aldi knock off Oreos. They're called cookies and cream...but have no actual cream in them Grin. I prefer them to actual oreos now.

reefedsail · 21/02/2021 12:15

Lidl bakery brownies- OMG they are amazing. I get myself one as a treat for going to Lidl.

DavidsSchitt · 21/02/2021 12:16

"I didn't see the thread, intrigued about what could be unreasonable about a salmon dish"

@Ch3rish the thread was actually about beef en croute. The OP expected a beef Wellington but she'd bought a manky Aldi beef en crouteGrin

Thank you, so is the beef en croute not recommended Grin
HaHaVeryBunny · 21/02/2021 12:26

Seconding Aldi mature chedder cheese, melts lovely on toast or on their savoury rosemary crackers.

Their basic margarita for 3 in a box are lovely, buy vine tomatoes, mushrooms, basil and some olives to top them with and it still works out cheaper for 3 of them, than 1 branded fancy vegetarian pizza.

Ice cream is lovely too around 3 quid and tastes much nicer than Hagan-Daz.

DavidsSchitt · 21/02/2021 12:50

"Thank you, so is the beef en croute not recommended"

Absolutely not. Tis mushy burger in pastry by all accounts. The salmon is not unreasonable though.

Elieza · 21/02/2021 13:02

I meant to say of the hot cloth cleanser that it’s not FOOD, ha ha, but did a typo and it says it’s not good - it IS good, duh, that’s why I buy it sigh! Grin

ThreeTwoOneBlastOff · 21/02/2021 13:09

Dishwasher tablets
Nappies
Their skincare, especially their pink clay dupes but it goes quickly.

DenisetheMenace · 21/02/2021 13:12

Their red fox Red Leicester is delicious. Fruit and fibre is really good, much more fruit than other brands.
Tiger and seedy loaves (the ones in the brown paper bags)
No added sugar/low fat raspberry and coconut and vanilla yoghurts
Halloumi fries
Lightly dusted basa and lemon sole

bearlyactive · 21/02/2021 13:16

Came on to say the brioche loaf but been beaten to it! I rarely go to Aldi but when I do I buy the loaves three at a time!

Artesia · 21/02/2021 13:17

The Chinese duck pancakes from Aldi are fabulous, as is the Paella

All the cheeses and cold meats have been great, and the specially selected steak is on a par with any of the more expensive supermarkets

Tal45 · 21/02/2021 13:24

Lidl wholemeal seeded sliced loaf, it's my favourite bread of any supermarket, much better than the equivalent at Waitrose or Sainsburys. Lidl also do some nice puddings, there's a chocolate one that you microwave that's gooey in the middle - so good!

H1978 · 21/02/2021 13:39

Lidl cheese twists and triple chocolate muffins are amazing. Also their salmon fishcakes with a parsley centre are delicious.

Aldi chocolate tastes better than most branded chocolate. The seeded bread is really good for the price too.

Calmyertits · 21/02/2021 17:25

We like the fishcakes with the parsley centre and ive always got 4 loafs of the malted loafs they do in the freezer! Ive said im not going to go back until we've cleared the freezer. I go once the kids are on bed about 8, alot of the meat is orange label by then and i chuck it all in our freezer!
