oakleaffy · 21/02/2021 01:02

I’m walking around at night trying to find a 24 hr pay point.
Have not ever run out of “ emergency “ before..
House historically had old prepay meter in, I am owner occupier.
I’m worried as no transport at present..local garage 24 hr said “
Not working “ for prepayment meter..

What happens???
I’m afraid to go back to a dark house as my emergency alarm went off.

Have you got an emergency number you can call for them? Is the alarm ongoing so you can't sleep through it? Do you need electricity through the night? I don't mean that sarcastically but I think at this point you need to go home, try and phone them of there's an emergency number, they might be able to put some more emergency on, and clear it tomorrow.

If you frequently use emergency it'll cost you more and you need to look at getting it replaced / budgeting

WouldstrokeTomHardy · 21/02/2021 01:07

If it's a smart pre pay it can be done online obviously. You should be able to call them and they will top it up for you.

oakleaffy · 21/02/2021 01:07

Well.. just got home and light is on.. credit all gone though.
I left a candle burning as too dangerous to come back to a dark house.
Not sure why light is still on as credit not there.
Pre payment meters are a pain in the bum for sure

Have you Def used your emergency credit as well as your normal? Have you tried putting your key in anyway?

And coming into a dark house lit by a phone light is less dangerous than leaving candles burning in an empty house

oakleaffy · 21/02/2021 01:10

Sleeping.. thanks.. I tried!!
But all come back “
Not working “
...... and further afield no phones being answered.
I wonder if night staff just don’t know how to work them??

I thought it shouldn’t cut off completely at the weekend after a certain time.
Which company are you with?

oakleaffy · 21/02/2021 01:11

Daytime shops are generally pretty good but don’t open til 10 pm🙁

Normally if you run out of credit it doesn't go off until about 10am the next day.

And obviously, do not leave an unattended candle on whilst you go out.

She wouldn't be roaming the streets if she could have done it online.

If it started beeping and electric is still on you've probably gone into your emergency credit. It's normally set at £10-15 dependant on energy supplier. Was it at £0.00 on what you'd last topped up?

oakleaffy · 21/02/2021 01:13

EDF
I’m past the “ emergency “ through forgetting...
Light seems to be on currently..
Maybe they don’t cut people off in darkness??

Usually remember in time.

At this time of the night just go to sleep if you can't top-up.

Stream something on your phone.

typicalvalues · 21/02/2021 01:14

I've had to use my Facebook Mutual Aid group twice to top up my gas as I'm too unwell to leave the house. They've been fantastic. It's so annoying that you can't just get a bill and pay by direct debit.

Wandavision · 21/02/2021 01:14

If you've already used the extra top up £10-15 then some supplier have additional emergency, emergency credit that lasts until 10am the next day if it goes off after like 2/3pm

Jobseeker19 · 21/02/2021 01:14

If the light is on. Then the electric hasnt gone. It sounds like its tripped. If you go and check the circuit breaker box and see if one of the switches has gone down.

OP posts:
Jobseeker19 · 21/02/2021 01:16

Yes I think it does mean 25p left

Jobseeker19 · 21/02/2021 01:18

Check to see if any switches in the electric box underneath have gone down.

Caramelblonde · 21/02/2021 01:22

Yes, but it shouldn't cut you off overnight. Just go to bed now, charge your phone if you can. Go out first thing and put plenty on.

SleepingStandingUp · 21/02/2021 01:23

Have you put your key in?
