Thank you!!! Just added this to my playlist. I thought it was a vision of love too Grin

ssd · 20/02/2021 22:34

Aren't they from ek?

ssd · 20/02/2021 22:34

1988?

SergeiL · 20/02/2021 22:36

Now listening to Dignity. Similarly evocative for me.

Susie477 · 20/02/2021 22:36

I was convinced that Roddy was going to be a superstar of George Michael proportions. He had absolutely everything : The songwriting talent, the voice, the looks and he was a brilliant guitarist, too.

Perhaps he just lacked the ego.

whatisthislifesofullofcare · 20/02/2021 22:36

Perfect Skin must resonate too?

AStarAboveTheCity · 20/02/2021 22:37

I only know it was ambition and love because of smash hits.

Thank you, smash hits.

I also thought it was ‘a vision of love wearing boxing gloves’.

They had some great songs, I love that line from Oblivious ‘I see you crying and I want to kill your friends’.

He’s a great lyricist. The whole of Surf is beautiful.

AStarAboveTheCity · 20/02/2021 22:46

@Susie447 I think he didn't realise how short his star was, bless him.

This is a belter of a song though and he was fucking gorgeous.

Are you ready to be heartbroken?

AStarAboveTheCity · 20/02/2021 22:53

Really?

Am steeling self.

@Susie477 agree on the 'How Men Are' thing. However, disappointed that you imply George was fuelled by ego.

SergeiL · 20/02/2021 23:04

If you see George perform post Wham!, it always makes me feel he was lacking ego. A beautiful, modest talent. I miss George.

mammmamia · 20/02/2021 23:06

Always thought this song was under rated!

Bimblybomeyelash · 20/02/2021 23:07

Ah good tune. I had this on a 1988 compilation album, either smash hits or now.

tothesea · 20/02/2021 23:08

put all the love and beauty
In the spirit of the night
And I'm holding my ticket tight.
Stupidity and suffering
Are on that ticket, too
And I'm going down the dip with you.

Aztec Camera - Walk out to winter

m.youtube.com/watch?v=kE3lTlPwykE

Should have been massive

tothesea · 20/02/2021 23:13

Loved Aztec Camera, Orange Juice, Lloyd Cole, Hipsway, Love and Money ..all those lovely jangly guitar floppy haired bands. Oh to be 17 again!

Justmuddlingalong · 20/02/2021 23:13

Just had a wee watch of Prefab Sprout-King of rock n roll on YouTube. And out of nosiness I googled Paddy McAloon him to see him now. 🤯

I nearly wore out my copy of Perfect Skin I loved that!
WendyJames35 · 20/02/2021 23:18

My first ever concert, & I was in the front row.
Off to listen to Aztec Camera now-spent may hours listening to them on my Walkman, back in the day...

MartiniDry · 20/02/2021 23:21

That was playing on the morning my firstborn arrived. 🙂

Sadly he’s been ill for a few years and is losing both his hearing and his eyesight
Justmuddlingalong · 20/02/2021 23:26

Paddy was another crush of mine. When I watched the video, I was in my teens again. For a few minutes I forgot I'm 50. Isn't it funny how our teenage crushes stay the same age in our memory?

SophieGiroux · 20/02/2021 23:29

I love "oblivious"
I've only recently started listening to it from coming across it on an alternative 80s Spotify list. Added it to my running playlist. Great lyrics.
