I read a quote that went something like this: if all of the world's billionaires put the wealth they'd made since the start of the pandemic together they could pay for every single person in the world to be vaccinated and still not spend all of that money.
So not even their wealth as a whole. Just the extra they've made.
I mean, it's mind blowing, isn't it? (If it's true). If it's not true, there is still so much money amongst this elite of people that it's incomprehensible.
So, what do we think of billionaires? I mean, I think, good on them for coming up with a product or an idea or a business that's made them all this money. Let them spend it however they like. But then, I think about so few people owning so much of the world's wealth and what it would mean if that wealth were distributed more evenly (fairly?).
Then I watched an episode of something on Netflix, about bling empires. Some of the billionaires in that come from family wealth, they've not earned it, they've not come up with a product or a business idea and it seems to me they just splash their cash on jewels and homes and furs. Oh and some of the money comes from the weapons industry!
Not sure what I'm asking, just looking for a bit of a chat about it all really.
If I was a billionaire, I'd like to think I'd start a billionaires club and actually do something. But then I worry I'd be too busy bathing in camels milk wearing my new sapphire jewellery.
