DH has wonderfully organised a surprise Zoom party for me tonight! Might be a lot of people and they've been invited to pop by and say hello/ Happy birthday, they don't have to stay for ages. There will be people from the UK and some in the US. Any tips?

Lovely! Be prepared for it to either be utter chaos with everyone talking over each other or complete silence as everyone is too polite to talk - but enjoy it anyway for what it is Grin Have you decided what to wear?

NineteenForever · 20/02/2021 16:38

Thank you, I envisage some chaos! Decided against trying to get PIL in on it as we'd spend all night sorting the tech! I will be getting 'dressed'
after dinner, but really it's just a change of blouse!

Make sure you have champagne to open, and a cake to cut when everyone can sing Happy Birthday!

NoGoodPunsLeft · 20/02/2021 16:49

Mute everyone when they sing if you do it all at the same time, everyone will be out of sync and it's really off putting.

Get a couple of jugs of cocktails ready mixed so you don't waste any of the time.

These are great ideas!

@NoGoodPunsLeft I’m a teacher and we don’t mute to sing Happy Birthday and it’s the funniest thing ever Grin

ZenNudist · 20/02/2021 16:59

Lipstick!

You can sing happy birthday one word each. Have a list of names ready.

I did one for my 40th and everyone had to bring me a virtual present unconstrained by price, size and reality.

As I rode off on my unicorn with Chris Hemsworth for tea with my new teaset straight from Buckingham Palace I have to say it was a pretty good party Grin

It sounds a bit false, but make a quick note about each person- something you can ask them about to save you being on the spot. Or make little groups on paper of people with something in common.

It may also be worth asking people to come in shifts.

I had a blast on mine.

NineteenForever · 20/02/2021 21:56

It was good fun- bit crazy as one friend was only on audio and with 30 people (!)
Love the virtual present idea, one for next time!
