Do I need a sick note- covid?

I had covid for two weeks and then as a result for a chest/ear infection and I am still not well enough to go back to work right now.

Will I need a sick note to have more time off after 14 calandar days? Or 7 calendar days or not at all as it's all covid related.

Added complexity is that I had four days off then on half term holiday for a week dues to go back Tuesday (that would be day 17 of my illness.

Today is the first day out of bed - antibiotics are working! Doctor was a bit odd with me when I asked for a sick note on Thursday.

All depends on the absence policy for where you work. My work gives special leave for covid related absence however any further leave due to sickness will be sick leave and therefore will need a self cert or GP line.

I downloaded an isolation note (I think that’s what it was called) when I had Covid.

Thanks @Bairnsmum05 good idea to check if our policy has been updated.

@BrokenCircle I will get an isolation note now.

@cherrypiepie hope you feel better soon 💐

I had the isolation note and then needed a sick note. (My work is NHS in case that helps you guess what your work policy might be.)
My GP was fab though. She gave me a date to return to work but she said I would need a bee sick note if I wasn’t well enough by that date and that it was no trouble at all. She said it is their job to support us. She ‘made’ me go back mid week so it wasn’t too much all at once. I asked about what would happen if I felt well enough to go back sooner and she said she’d need to amend the sick note. I think it’s now called a fit note, not a sick note btw.

What’s the policy in your workplace?

cherrypiepie · 21/02/2021 20:49

@ThePricklySheep thank you that is helpful. I emailed my boss earlier and she is checking with HR tomorrow. And will give me a call. She is super supportive though. I'm sure I will get a sicknote be pretty churlish if they didn't.

@Bairnsmum05 yesterday was first day out of bed and the antibiotics are kicking in and i am feeling better also realising how ill I have been.

Quick update incase it helps someone else: today is week three and I needed a sick note from today day 16 - work were satisfied that will cover it all. The policy is really ambiguous with the new covid rules and being in half term holidays for part of to but they were so lovely.

GP was lovely too saying they cannot issue sick note but as they are treating a chest infection he did it for a that and said post covid on it and even better it was an electronic one! Hoping to go back next week but right now I am knackered!
