£40 to spend on myself - WWYD?

I have £40 to spend on myself. What would you get? I am so used to being frugal I don't want to waste this, I don't want candles, gin or smellies - I want something I never knew existed that will change my life...

My interests are running, yoga, and raising teenagers. My entire house needs decorating but obviously £40 doesn't go far on paint/curtains etc so I don't really want to put it towards that kind of thing. Pre covid I loved browsing charity shops and would have spent it in them, getting random lovely things and also knowing a good cause would benefit.

I'd probably spend it on some nice sports gear, really nice leggings or something. I've become obsessed recently Grin

Fivemoreminutes1 · 20/02/2021 10:24

I’d get a magazine subscription as it’s something to look forward to every month.
Or...
Chilly’s water bottle series 2
Pizza stone for the oven or bbq
Bird box camera with night vision
Ice-cream maker
Spacemasks

But ARE there any nice leggings?! I have tried about 3 kinds and they all bug me. Now I run in scratty baggy joggers previously used for decorating!!

Never tried a spacemask, are they as good as the hype?

Thanks for all the ideas

I'd spend it all on books...

EuroTrashed · 20/02/2021 11:07

Are space masks the things that heat up? If so, yes they’re as good as they say!

Noauthorityhere · 20/02/2021 11:08

I'd buy cake, or get an afternoon tea delivered

Findahouse21 · 20/02/2021 11:09

Over lockdown I have really enjoyed a couple of adult paint by numbers sets from amazon. Just half an hour to myself in the evening painting is quite therapeutic

MojoJojo71 · 20/02/2021 11:12

Bunch of flowers - I bought myself some beautiful tulips in Aldi yesterday for about £4 and they make me smile
Nice bubble bath
Books, Wine and Chocolate to enjoy in bubble bath

WisestIsShe · 20/02/2021 11:13

I'd buy a heated throw and a new mug. I got my heated throw so I could read books in the garden in the spring/autumn and find it total bliss.

MojoJojo71 · 20/02/2021 11:13

@Findahouse21 that sounds good. Would you mind sharing a link? I tried knitting but it hurt my fingers

picknmix1984 · 20/02/2021 11:17

£40 2 bottles of Molten Brown shower gel.

LubaLuca · 20/02/2021 11:22

Books and good tights. I'm easily pleased.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 20/02/2021 16:57

Fairy lights - if the house needs decorating this will disguise the fact and give it a nice cosy glow. If there's money left over then chocolate!

Tiggles · 20/02/2021 17:13

I'd probably buy guide books for the next long distance routes that I plan to walk so I can sit and read them whilst in lockdown and getting bored of walking from home.

Wishihadanalgorithm · 20/02/2021 17:28

Some lovely skin cream or oil, fancy bubble bath, luxury chocolates, a new book, some new underwear, hand cream, new pyjamas, fluffy bed socks, new slippers or a new scarf.

For me the list is endless but I can understand that you don’t want to waste £40 when you have been so frugal recently. Just remember you are worth the treat - whatever you choose.

Blibbyblobby · 20/02/2021 17:34

I've got a bluetooth headband for running - much more comfy than earbuds or headphones. They cost about £20 from Amazon. Get the one that you can remove the main unit for washing though!

WantChewbaccaForGood · 20/02/2021 17:35

Oxfam online shop is available for an online charity shop fix! They might even have leggings!

BeastOfBODMAS · 20/02/2021 17:36

I’d buy a really good quality, pretty bra as I am also frugal and normally end up with something either badly fitting or ugly from the supermarket sale rail.
That would tick both boxes for me, a treat and useful!

faerveren · 20/02/2021 17:51

I would buy myself a good quality thicker yoga mat, my knees would thank me. Or some proper running socks where the price usually makes me cringe, or a hat that didn’t slip about and make my head too hot.

I like the idea of a magazine subscription too.

faerveren · 20/02/2021 17:54

Oh yeah good fitting bra that’s a good idea @BeastOfBODMAS

I’m coming off this thread ... fifty ways to spend £40 might bankrupt me. Grin

Tisforptarmigan · 21/02/2021 12:36

I would buy leggings from sweaty Betty. Not cheap but so much better than my other ones.

Saw a code on here last week with 25% off.

3littlemonkeys82 · 21/02/2021 12:42

I treated myself to a neck/back massager last month. It's the best thing I've bought solely for me in a long time. So far 3 colleagues have bought one purely based on my incessant chattering about it 🤣 under £40 on amazon.

DenisetheMenace · 21/02/2021 12:43

I’d hang on until the charity shops open up again and go wild in the aisles Grin

Spied · 21/02/2021 12:45

I'd buy a good quality leather purse
