Not a shark! Just returned my shark and got a full refund, it just spat all the dirt out and was useless.

So now thinking about a dyson, dont want one that has to fix to the wall. 400 pounds absolute max budget.

There are so many Dyson's how do I pick? Also dont want to have to hold the button down!

TIA

Would also like to hear recommendations!

We have a Dyson, you don’t HAVE to fix it to the wall but it’s very helpful if you do. I think we just got the best model available at the time as it was on promotion. I really like ours but agree that holding the button can be hard work. However we also more recently got a higher end of range Eufy and that means the Dyson is for stairs, corners/nooks, and spot cleaning after the kids have eaten. The eufy runs around doing the general surface cleaning. As we are all in the house so much now I feel I can justify having both.

We bought a Dyson V10 Absolute at the end of December. It has a larger bin and longer run time than the V8. The Absolute comes with the carpet attachment and the "fluffy" attachment for hard floors, plus several other attachments. (The V10 Animal does not include the "fluffy" hard floor attachment.) I bought an extra filter from Dyson but I see that Currys and Dyson now include a spare filter with both the V10 Absolute and Animal, in the box, as standard. (A Dyson V10 filter is around £32 including postage.) So that's a better deal for the same price we paid in December.

I love it. The battery run time is good, it's fairly quiet and I haven't used my old upright DC07 since we bought the cordless.

At £449.99, the Dyson V10 Absolute would be £50 over your budget. The V10 Animal would be within budget - though you would not get the "fluffy" soft roller hard floor head with the Animal.

The V8 Absolute Extra is around £400, comes with both the carpet and hard floor heads, plus a number of other attachments, but has a 40 minute run time compared with 60 minutes for the V10 range. It also has a slightly smaller canister capacity.

It is a bit of a fag holding down the button, but I have got used to that. It is possible to buy (from China) a plastic gadget which can be slipped on to hold the button in the on position (but I would not recommend that for a number of reasons).

If you were interested in the V8 Absolute range but can't find one due to some of the V8 range being discontinued, you might consider the V8 Animal model and buying a V8 carpet head separately - these are around £64 for a genuine Dyson carpet head.

I have a mixture of hard floors, carpet and low pile carpet tiles, so both the carpet head and the soft roller hard floor head are essential for us.

As a previous poster has said, you can charge the battery without fixing the docking station to the wall, but it is more convenient to have the machine body plus the stick plus the most used attachment charging in the docking station and safely "parked" out of the way on a wall (or inside a cupboard or under the stairs if you have an electric socket there).

I got this one just after Christmas when it was in the same for about £160. It's a Good Housekeeping best buy and it really is - as good as my old Miele Cat & Dog but far easier to use and store.

So with the v10 absolute do you have to hold the button down?

Also interested as I was thinking about relaxing my dyson one for a Shark...maybe I shouldn’t! The holding button is a bit of a pain but I am used to it now. We got a refurbed model from dyson - they haven’t necessarily been fixed, maybe just returns so box been opened. Ours looked perfect and was much cheaper. And it still comes with guarantee...worth thinking about if the model you want is over budget.

cheeseisthebest · 20/02/2021 10:03

How do you get a refurbed model ?

I have a Halo which I really like.

Dee1975 · 20/02/2021 10:10

Have you looked at a gTec. We have an on in the wall dyson which is great for stairs and smal areas and a gtec as well which I love for large areas.

ShrinkingViolet9 · 20/02/2021 11:21

@cheeseisthebest

So with the v10 absolute do you have to hold the button down?
Yes.

I don't think any of the Dyson V range cordless have a button that does not need holding down.

ShrinkingViolet9 · 20/02/2021 11:30

Dyson has an outlet on eBay where "refurbished" models are sometimes listed.

cheeseisthebest · 20/02/2021 11:44

See for that much money I dont want to have hold the button down!

OP posts:
WeeM · 20/02/2021 11:47

Yeah as @ShrinkingViolet9 said, I’m sure it was the Dyson eBay outlet we got it from. I’m sure we paid about half the retail price for the one we got.

Covidcorvid · 20/02/2021 11:52

Holding the button down really isn’t an issue, I don’t notice it when doing it...it’s in a very intuitive place for your finger. It’s a battery saving mechanism.

Hariboqueen1 · 20/02/2021 11:57

I have a gtec and I absolutely love it.

cheeseisthebest · 20/02/2021 12:15

Thank you, oh how do I pick!!

OP posts:
ShrinkingViolet9 · 20/02/2021 12:47
The Dyson Outlet on eBay has listed the V8 Absolute (for which they have "More than 10 available") as

"Runtime 20 min"

whereas Currys, Dyson site and some other outlets have the current V8 models listed as "40 min" runtime.

If anyone was interested in the refurbished V8 models on Dyson's eBay Outlet I'd suggest querying their runtime, in case these are refurbished older V8s or are new "old stock".
