Songs You Associate With An Ex

Just listening to Steve Rice and he's played some songs that I always associate with some exes. First up, Chas & Dave "There's No Pleasing You". Always makes me think of the first Mr Petrocelli who turned into a mammoth whinger as time went on, and I couldn't right for doing wrong. Second, Annie Lennox, Thorn In My Side for one who turned out to be real but utterly charming user, and final one The Beatles 'In My Life' for the one that got away.

What's on your list?

"Who'd of known" by Lily Allen sums up the start of our relationship and I remember him fondly.

Nothing compares 2 u (Sinead o connor)... an ex from a long long time ago who went back to his ex gfriend, Paranoid by Black Sabbath....was often played on the Jukebox at the pub where I met a lovely ex that broke my heart at the age of...17.

Yazz 'The Only Way is Up' reminds me of dancing to it with an ex (the one that got away).

Small town Boy - bronski beat - my first BF at age 14 had the lyrics written on the inside cover of his physics file. I'm still friends with him 35 years later Smile

Wide Open Space by Mansun - I was dumped when I was waiting to be picked up to go to their concert and he never turned up!

I did hear him on local radio a couple off years ago (very distinctive voice) on a dating competition saying he just wanted to find someone to share life with. Well don't ghost people then 😂

NiceTwin · 19/02/2021 07:35

Stone Roses I wanna be adored.
Reminds me of the times we used lay around with the radio on in the background.

Offthewallisaladder · 19/02/2021 07:54

Kate Nash- Foundations

Pretty much sums up the break down on my marriage.

Elbow’s one day like this. We danced around his bedroom to it one night so it always reminds me of that. One of the only nice memories I have of him, he was an abusive controlling twat.

sandgrown · 19/02/2021 08:01

A Different Corner by George Michael. The video of him In an empty room was me after my ex left with my best friend and I moved with nothing! The same ex used to play Hurricane by Neil Young to me. The Sweetest Feeling by Jackie Wilson reminds me of my youth club crush Colin .

Retrogal · 19/02/2021 08:02

You do something to me
Paul Weller

Clawdy · 19/02/2021 08:28

Dedicated To The One I Love - Mamas and Papas. He gave me the record as he left for a student archaeology dig for the summer. Before he returned, I'd decided it was over.
She Moved Through The Fair - holiday romance with a boy in Ireland the same summer. We sat on the beach at Skerries, in the dark, and he sang it to me. Only knew him for that week, but never forgot that moment!

mummyof2girls18 · 19/02/2021 08:31

Somebody that I used to know - Gotye, came out the year I divorced and I felt like Kimbra in that song whenever I would hear it haha

StepOutOfLine · 19/02/2021 08:37

This is the Day, The The
Angie, the Rolling Stones
The Year of the Cat album, Al Stewart.
All the one that got away.

Sara, Fleetwood Mac
Winterwood, Don MacLean, whole album
Both make me feel physically sick, as this one was still in love with his Sara. I'm not Sara. (In later years me and my friends would lie around drunkenly bemoaning the fact that we weren't "Somebody's Sara"

Desperado, The Eagles
I'll be there for you, Bon Jovi
Alone, Heart
I might actually have been his Sara looking back. I hope so.

lollipoprainbow · 19/02/2021 08:39

Robbie Williams she's the one
Keane everybody's changing
Wham if you were there
Suede the beautiful ones
