Help! Any seamstresses around? Wedding dress help

So wedding has been postponed due to Covid and by the time the new date comes around I will have a small baby who I am likely to be breastfeeding.

I’ve seen a dress that I love but it is back fastening with buttons. The material seems quite delicate but do you think there is any clever way of putting in some kind of zip at the sides or somewhere for boob access? Hopefully the photos I’ve attached to this post will work!

Alternatively I was thinking that I could express milk beforehand but I expect I would need at least 2 feeding/pumping sessions on the day to relieve pressure - the venue has a side room I can use for this so I could just undo and whack a T-shirt on. Is this utter madness?!

That is a stunning dress - but it doesn't look possible to me. You could, at a massive push, add a zip or other fastening at the side - but you'd have to slice through the tulle/net and bind it first, and that would a. be very difficult b. likely show and c. wouldn't evne give enough access to your boob - if you think about it, you'd also have to have a similar opening on the shoulder to allow the top of the front to drop down.

I would deffo go for a quick expressing session instead - needn't be as exhaustive as you'd normally do, just enough to take the pressured feeling away?

Am not a professional seamstress but d

Thank you @LitCrit - I had feared as much! You’re right- a quick 15 minute pump or stick the baby on for a snack wouldn’t be so bad.

Dont mess with it at all. You might ruin it. It is an absolutely beautiful dress. Hope you and your little family have a wonderful day.

That's a lovely dress, but hard to see how such delicate fabric could be altered without it being really visible.

How old will your baby be? Mine were pretty easily overwhelmed after around 4 months, and tended to need a bit of a break from anything busy, so slipping off to a side room for a feed would have suited them. Maybe express a couple of bottles in advance so someone can feed them during the ceremony or other key points in the day too.

Thanks everyone. The baby will be around 4 months- I have a toddler already so I’m thinking back to how I coped when he was 4mo- I did manage a whole wedding (someone else’s) without him by expressing in the few days leading up to it - although my boobs were bursting by the end of the night! I’ve decided to go for it and just have some quiet time every now and then. My bridesmaids have offered to undress me and keep me company when required!
