Lockdown birthday by myself.

Hi, I am in my 40s and have a birthday coming in about a week. No family will send cards or anything like that and my situation is just me and an elderly parent. I try to do something special on such occasions, not just for myself, because I don't have a cause for celebration at any other time and no kids to enjoy doing it for instead for theirs. I have had a lot to deal with over a long time and I just wanted to do something for myself to make it a bit more than an ordinary day.

Money, within reason, isn't an object, but I was just looking for some ideas of a way of enjoying my day in my current situation and giving myself a bit of a lift after being a full time carer with no break in a very long time. A few treats or something a bit different.

Thanks so much!

Happy Birthday for next week!

I would order some lovely food (brownie box, afternoon tea etc) to treat yourself if you like that sort of thing. I think you can also order some quite posh meal kits (I’m thinking Rick Stein does one?) again, if that’s your sort of thing?

Do you like walking? I would do the longest walk in the best local area. Followed by a bath and face mask. Followed by my favourite meal and feel good film (e.g. Shawshank redemption). Followed by bed, clean sheets essential.

Sorry you are not expecting anyone else to do anything for you. Good for you to look to find a positive alternative.

Hope you get 40 pages of brilliant suggestions.

And happy birthday. Cake

Happy Birthday for next week! Given the lockdown situation its just about making your day at home feel special.

I'd buy a few bunches of tulips and daffodils to put around the house, maybe buy some new bedding and pjs/slippers or lounge wear, some nice bath products. Find a podcast or a film or a really good book that you know you'll enjoy. Get all your favourite films in. Whatever it is that gives you pleasure.

I hope you have a lovely day.

*get all your favourite food and drinks in

I'd get some really nice food delivered, some flowers, a nice book and a bottle of wine if you drink. Hope you have a lovely day and pamper yourself

Write a list of your more favourite activities, food and drink. Then plan your day around those things. A long walk with favourite music would be a good mood booster for the morning! Then indulge yourself for the rest of the day. Have lots of things delivered to you! Wishing you a very happy birthday Flowers Cake Wine

Any friends who might want to have an online celebration? We were given a session with a company called Plymouth Point for Christmas to do an online mystery game which looks like fun.

Otherwise I think I'd be tempted to order a lovely afternoon tea and an evening meal to be delivered, and give myself permission to spend the afternoon buying plants for my garden (obviously you might want to replace this with whatever you enjoy) and then watch a new film.

I hope you have a good day OP. I was in the same situation last year and spent the day moping. What a waste of a bloody birthday!

I second the suggestion of a lovely long walk, buy yourself some beautiful spring flowers, and cook yourself a nice meal. If you're not into cooking splash out on a lovely takeaway (I would do this!). Get some really nice toiletries for yourself and take a long soak in the bath. Could you have a long skype/zoom chat with a favourite person?

Happy Birthday in advance! Flowers.
Some good ideas here already.

Buy yourself some flowers.

Buy yourself a present! What have you wanted for ages but not treated to yourself to? Has to be something frivolous and indulgent. I’d buy perfume.

Go for a walk somewhere pretty.

Have an afternoon nap. Then a lovely long bath.

Get your favourite treat food & drink in (I’d go for good cheese & crackers and some wine if you drink).

Watch a really good film. Maybe something funny? Have a slice of birthday cake or your favourite dessert while watching.

Happy Birthday for when it comes OP Flowers
Lovely suggestions so far, I’d definitely spend some time in nature, get in lovely food, wine if you drink, beautiful flowers, new books/craft materials and have a wonderful day doing what you want when you want.
