Kinda gross... cleaning question!

I live in a warm country, and we've had a lot of (very unusual) rain recently.

It's caused a bit of a swarm of mosquitos, and while we're usually pretty good at keeping them out of the house, early this week we had 7 or 8 of the little buggers in our bedroom in the middle of the night!

I am blind as a bat without my contacts in, so DP is our designated night-time swatter... but the other night he didn't have the swat to hand, and used the bottom of a slipper to whack them when they landed on the ceiling.

I was appropriately grateful and we went back to sleep without disturbance. I forgot about it entirely, in fact, until I looked up this morning and saw 7 squashed mosquitos on my white ceiling, small bloodstains and all.

How do I clean them off without leaving dirty little marks where their evil bodies used to be?

I live in South Australia and have always just used a bit of Ciff or general cleaning spray on a cloth. No marks at all.

@FortunesFave I tried that first and ended up with a dark smear... I wonder why?!

Bicarbonate paste seems to work once I've scraped whatever I can off with a spoon (a cleaning spoon, not a kitchen spoon!) but it also takes off a bit of the paintwork...
