I've given myself constipation-when will it wear off?

Rainbowaftertherain · 18/02/2021 07:36

I took anti-diarrhoea tablets on Saturday night (because I had a loose movement).
I think it was a one off but I took the full dose.
I've researched them and apparently the way they work is preventing one's bowels from contracting.

I'm in so much pain, I can tell I'm bunged up but straining yesterday made me bleed! Ugh.

Maybe with coconut oil on my finger. I guess I'd do it with a blocked pipe....Hmm
So I literally push as if I'm trying to push things in? (I do so sound like a troll! I promise I'm not)!

Watch out for overflow diarrhoea , the plug will still be in situ but all the other stuff you’ve been taking leaks around the side of it.

Rainbowaftertherain · 18/02/2021 16:52

Could someone perchance explain what they mean by 'plug' please? Sorry if stupid question. I want to know before I perform an operation on myself.

@Biscuitsdisappear

This advice was given to me by a friend whose mum had been a nurse in the 50s. Trim one finger nail to a sensible length and carefully file off any snaggy bits. Retire to the bathroom and drop kecks. Lubricate the selected digit, lean forward with the knees apart and gently insert aforementioned digit into the oxo tower. Push the plug until it has retreated and cleared the chute. It should only need to be done once if its done correctly, then sit back and relax. You may not want to "go" immediately but don't forget that something is imminent. You never know but this may open up a new horizon for you as well.
I may just be giving this a go too if mine doesn't ease.

Short nails? - Check!
Lube? - mind your own business!

FossilisedFanny · 18/02/2021 16:55

The plug is the bit of poo that’s stuck

Rainbowaftertherain · 18/02/2021 16:55

Okay so this method sort of breaks it up...

The prune juice is usually in the fruit juice section, not with the tinned prunes.

i occasionally suffer and it is so painful.

ShirleyPhallus · 18/02/2021 17:01

Good grief do not give yourself a bum fingering!!!

Rainbowaftertherain · 18/02/2021 17:05

Okay
Done
Not sure if it did anything.
Used coconut oil.
I've got oranges. OJ. Soup made from cooked, home made salsa (maybe that will act as a colonic)? Ugh.

Blush I'm in so much pain! And I've just had to explain to relatively new work colleagues why I needed to go home. Today is NOT a good day. But thanks all of you for the support :)

I feel your pain op, I regularly get bad constipation because of medication I'm on, despite eating healthily and staying hydrated. The best treatment I've found is a medicine called Macrogol, I buy it from Amazon and the brand is called Dulcosoft, it comes as syrup in a bottle with dosing cup. I've also noticed Senokot makes a similar Macrogol product called Senosoft and it comes in sachets of syrup. When Senokot max tablets still aren't enough I have to resort to Macrogol and it always works within 24 hours. I haven't tried the glucose suppositories though, may try them myself in future! I was given lactulose when I was younger and pregnant, I wasn't on any meds back then but pregnancy just triggered awful constipation for me unfortunately. I found it gave me bad stomach cramps though so haven't used it since.

AngelDelightUK · 18/02/2021 17:16

I have IBS which is usually diarrhoea related, but everysooften I do get the constipation variety and the only way to relieve it sometimes is to do a bit of manual extraction, which I think you’ve now tried. I’m so used to having to flick it out it’s second nature (and why I keep disposable gloves in my bathroom)

Until you’ve had the pain from severe bungedupness, you don’t realise that you will literally try ANYTHING!

Rainbowaftertherain · 18/02/2021 17:27

It just felt very tightly packed if you will :(

i hate myself at the moment

I've eaten two cups of spicy tomato soup. Still feel bunged but no urge to 'go' yet. If I don't eat, will it ever 'need' to come out?

Should I shove more coconut oil up?

A relative has just scared hell out of me by saying a blocked bowel is very serious and I need to get myself straight to a doctor...

OP posts:
FossilisedFanny · 18/02/2021 18:23

I think you’ve throw everything at it from the top end , honestly, you need a suppository up there.

Rainbowaftertherain · 18/02/2021 18:26

I couldn't get a gp appointment. I'll see if I can get one tomorrow. Would coconut oil work?

OP posts:
Mxflamingnoravera · 18/02/2021 18:41

If you can't get glycerin suppositories in a pharmacy, they have them Amazon they'll be there tomorrow, I have take a lot of painkillers and could not live without them. Safe, no pain, no side effects, just relief in half and hour.

Sweettea1 · 18/02/2021 18:57

I can't work out if you messing or not but its made me giggle. By the time you have finished sticking all kinds up your arse you won't be able to get of the toilet. Stay away from the coconut oil.

I'm really not! I'm so grateful for the anonymity of the 'net! Anyway To whom upthread recommended rummaging around up one's ass with a lubed finger. It worked. I love you. Marry me or some shit....

Draw yourself a shallow bath that's enough to cover your bits and wee in the bath.

I'm a carer for my mum and when she got so backed up she wnet a little bit doolally and doesn't remember it but I had to run a bath each time she needed the wee and it really helped her and she was able to go.

I also second the lubricating of the poo - the suppository will help wonders. Sometimes it doesn't work immediately like it's supposed to (it didn't on mum) so I know it's easier said than done but try not to focus on it and struggle and fight it because that'll be tensing you out even more if you keep thinking about the pain coming as it comes out. If you can nod off and let the medicine work (personally I'd go for a suppository and a couple of dulcolax) and untense your body through sleep it'd work faster. Most people I know when as upset and worried will fight off the medicine because they're scared of potential pain which makes it harder and more painful.

(my mum fought off morphine after a fall at home and felt no pain relief - not even from a pain relief suppository but after she'd slept a couple of hours she was high af 12 hours later!)

CottonHeadedNinyMuggins · 18/02/2021 19:14

So glad you've gotten the plug out, Rainbow. Hopefully it'll continue on the same vein now!

FossilisedFanny · 18/02/2021 19:17

Brace yourself Op , now the plugs out the rest will follow!

MyGazeboisLeaking · 18/02/2021 19:19

You can get these from Amazon as well as glycerin suppositories, OP.
