Friends Reunited - anyone remember this?

I discovered Friends Reunited in 2005, apparently 5 years after it started, and was immediately hooked - nosy'ing all over the place at people from my past. I even had a 5 year relationship with someone me through their dating site. Anyone else remember this one?

Yes was on it round about 2002-the dating site was great, its how my met my husband 😀

Yes I remember it. I reunited two friends through it who'd fallen out years ago and neither of them wanted to take the first step to apologise and reconcile. They're still good friends now.

Years later, my poor mother actually gets the odd call from people trying to find me. Fairly or unfairly, I feel like it set a trend for that kind of thing.

Yes, it could have been huge (look at Facebook) but their big mistake was charging for it.

I used it under a false name #stalker.

I always suspected there was a reason I'd never kept in contact with 99% of school compatriots and a rash decsion to attend a school reunion proved me right.

Yes! I signed up and put a message up to say what I was doing now. Alhough it was pretty pointless, the site was launched just a few years after I left school so I was still in touch with most of my school friends anyway!

I never fancied going to a school reunion but it was interesting finding out what people were doing.

Soooo many affairs started from that site !

The owners still made tens of millions from it so I’d say they did ok out of it!

I was on friends reunited. Back when it first started out.
I was contacted by a guy that I had a crush on when I was 14 and he was 18, our families knew each other and we were both happily married with kids and chatted for a while.
Then my school bully contacted me, I said she had the wrong person and was looking for my sister.
Oh the fun!

I was on it, and I found one of my closest friends from school on there.

We’d lost touch when we left, she went away to university and her family moved from the area so she never came back around here, it was in the 1980s so we didn’t have such easy ways of keeping in touch back then.

I was so pleased when I saw her name on there so messaged her and got a one line reply, basically saying what her job was and her location. Never heard anything else of her since.
