Is a gift subscription to a magazine the person already buys a rubbish present?

Just that, sorry for the boring post! Really stuck on what to get my dad for his birthday. He buys a magazine each month and I thought I might just get a gift subscription to that. But it wouldn't be a very exciting present since he'd just buy it anyway, if you see what I mean. Can't wait til we can go and browse the shops again...

It depends - i found that sometimes the subscriber copy of the magazine arrived later than in the shops. If he likes to fetch it on the first day then that might not suit.

Are their special subscriber offers? Extra content, ipad edition, etc?

No, it's a good idea for your dad + maybe a box of chocolates, some wine / whiskey / tin top end biscuits etc. Subscription magazines always arrive early, not late! I had the March editions of Coast, Gardener's World and Landscape at the beginning of February. One was a Christmas present (look out for free gifts at start up of subscription - I've had a lovely candle and Alex Clark tin) the other two are just me treating myself!

Might be worth it
