Just trying to strike a balance - they really are having a tough year.

Studying?
Chilling, online gaming with friends?
Anything else?

She's really struggling so just trying to encourage her to rest and step away from the work and do things she enjoys.

Kerberos · 17/02/2021 08:05

Chilling and playing online games with her friends.

Given we don't have much info on assessments and she's all up to date with school work I don't see the need to nag about revision.

Do nag about music practice though but other than that leave her to it. She's an amazing girl and I'm immensely proud of her and how she's coped this last year.

FiveMoreMinutesPlease · 17/02/2021 08:07

Mine also struggling so she's just chilling and trying not to get anxious.

KyotoRose · 17/02/2021 08:14

Year 11’s who study my subject are under my strict orders to have a rest, and not even look at a piece of work, as they’ve been working so hard and i really worry about them.

Knowing what most of the other fuckwit Teachers in my school are like, they’ve probably overloaded them with work. Sometimes young people have to be given space to breathe!

I hope all your Year 11’s are able to rest and relax this week.

BokehBabe · 17/02/2021 08:53

@KyotoRose - I think I love you 😍.

What an amazing teacher you are.
What subject do you teach - can I be one of your students please?

I'm letting mine sleep in, connect with friends online and accompany me on daily walks as far as possible (on days of least resistance).

We will pop into the study towards the end of the week and just get some order in workbooks/loose bits of paper etc.

My Y11 will have assessments as soon as the schools reopen so supposed to be revising when really just want a break.

MoiraNotRuby · 17/02/2021 08:59

DS says he is doing some school work/revision but I am not convinced its enough tbh. However he is getting exercise and playing online with friends. I think mental health wise he is doing reasonably, I'm just not sure he will get into 6th form....

WhatHaveIFound · 17/02/2021 09:02

After a weekend of gaming, DS is unfortunately stuck with catching up on all the work he's behind on. He's not been well since before Christmas and whilst his teachers have been very understanding, we thought it would be better to catch up before any return to school.

He does get a lie in most days and has been out for a couple of walks with us (but needs to sleep afterwards).

KyotoRose · 17/02/2021 10:20

@BokehBabe

😂 you’re too kind!

I teach a creative subject, with a 50:50 coursework to terminal exam split, and the coursework is really demanding.

I feel very sorry for the Year 11’s. They had a very strange Year 10, and now there’s nothing definite that’s been put in place and shared about the exam. Mine are completely exhausted, and many of them were already suffering with mental health conditions, but each of my students definitely seem very different to how they used to be.

Comefromaway · 17/02/2021 10:42

Ds's poor Yr11 girlfriend is recovering from tonsillitus!

HasaDigaEebowai · 17/02/2021 10:45

Sleeping until midday and then on phone/gaming/reading/watching netflix/walking the dog/studying.

Mine still has exams on though (Cambridge iGCSEs which haven't been fully pulled yet)

HelloDulling · 17/02/2021 10:48

A couple of hours of work in the morning, then meeting for a walk/doing craft/watching crap tv.

usedtobeboss3 · 17/02/2021 10:58

Exams as soon as they go back (March?...) so trying to get a balance between a bit of revision and some relaxation. He's doing maybe 2 hours work a day, which I think is fair and reasonable (and his decision, having taken the weekend off) which leaves plenty of time for other stuff. He was very tired after six weeks of intense online lessons plus prep, so is appreciating the fact that's it's a bit more relaxed. The first two weeks after half term will be normal online timetable, but of revision lessons, so he knows he has time to build on whatever he does this week - and he picked his weakest areas to focus on now so that he can go back to his teachers with questions where necessary.

Biscuitsneeded · 17/02/2021 11:03

Gaming, sleeping in late, managing to go out for a couple of hours with one (different) friend most days. No work. I haven't set any work for my own year 11s either, although have pointed them to revision resources they can use if they want to, because some of mine will feel more anxious if they do no work, rather than less. Have emphasised that it's optional.

Notcoolmum · 17/02/2021 22:12

Sleeping. Gaming. Chatting to friends. Playing football in the garden. And even talking to me on occasion!! We have talked about work they are behind on. But not sure it will get done.

MintyCedric · 17/02/2021 22:23

Mine is doing an online law work experience project so has various webinars and research projects going on for that.
Revising for two weeks of mini mocks after half term (they were supposed to have their mocks after Christmas)
Working out
Cooking...I got a Hello Fresh delivery and have put her in charge of dinners as she hates washing up so much
Binge watching true crime documentaries with me and the cats Smile

fluffythedragonslayer · 17/02/2021 22:28

One hour revision a day. A walk daily for minimum 30 mins.

The rest of the time he's mainly texting or video calling his girlfriend or playing Destiny

UncomfortableSilence · 17/02/2021 22:39

She's been set Maths, Physics and has some coursework to complete. She's exhausted so trying to lay in and also meet her friend for some walks oh and she's trying to master the art of applying false eyelashes Grin

She also has decided that she won't be given the grades she thinks she could get and has started looking at different options for September Sad

SE13Mummy · 17/02/2021 22:58

Bit of baking
Browsing eBay for clothes
Tidying & cleaning bedroom
Watching series online with friends
20 mins of Seneca revision x2 per day - ish (her idea)
Music practice
Going for a walk with a friend
Online group chats with friends
Annoying her sibling...

PomBearWithoutHerOFRS · 17/02/2021 23:54

Lurking in his room, gaming with his friends mostly. He has become nocturnal, rising from his pit around 4pm and descending in search of food (pot noodle mostly) then returning to the stygian gloom to fester and game until the wee small hours...
That said, he has really been working hard at his online lessons, has put loads of effort into it, been self disciplined and helpful while no4 son has been in hospital 40 miles away, and is generally a good egg, so he's due a break.
