Desogestrel / abortion bleeding help!

Hello,

I had a medical abortion at home at the end of December (which was horrendous). I started taking Desogestral immediately after (as advised), I bled heavily for 2 weeks, stop for a week the. Have been HEAVILY bleeding for 4 weeks.
I’ve been told this could be the desogestral but I’m really concerned. Has anyone else had this with this contraception?
I feel really low, moods are all over the place and the bleeding is getting me down but also not helping me get over the abortion.
Stopped taking desogestrel 3 nights ago and still bleeding heavily. Anyone know how long it takes to get back to normal?
Help :(

I came off Desogestral about 18 months ago as after 4 years of taking it I was bleeding a lot and very irregularly. This is common with this Pill, but I think you need to contact your GP or whoever provided the abortion. It could be normal or something could be not quite right.

You could also be becoming low in iron with such heavy bleeding so I’d ask the GP etc if you should start taking an iron supplement, as being low on iron will also make you feel very tired.

How far along were you? Have you spoken to EPU and they have confirmed that everything has passed? Have you done a pregnancy test since which has come back negative? It sounds to me like you could have retained tissue causing the bleeding. I'd get checked out and ask for a scan.

Thanks for your reply. Yes I’ve been told that it can be common but it’s also so debilitating and unmanageable. Hope you found something more suitable for you. Thanks again.

Yes thanks for this. I’m taking iron just incase as I think you’re right. I’m definitely low in iron now. Hopefully I’ll feel a bit more like myself again soon

I was just 4 weeks along. I went back to the clinic as they said the same that perhaps some tissue was still hanging on but they scanned me and weren’t too worried although the whole process was a bit of a mess and I felt they didn’t have a clue what they were doing so I do feel a little unconfident about it. I may need to speak with them again . Thanks again
