Could my foot be broken?

Not a great photo but it’s all I can manage.

Earlier today my son opened the front door while I was on the other side and the door slammed into my foot. (He had no idea I was there) It was so painful. It had eased a bit but as the night has gone on it’s gotten more painful. I can weight bear but it’s very sore to so I’m hobbling about using only my heel and keeping it elevated when I’m not moving around. I actually broke this foot a few years ago in almost exactly the same place and didn’t realise it was broken until a few days later when I went to A&E. It looked like my foot looks now at the start and got very purple and then green over the next few days. I’m wondering if it could have rebroken the old break or a new break? Or is it just a sore bruise?

Could my foot be broken?

No one knows without an x- ray op. Get yourself down to A/E to make sure.

Ugh- I was hoping to avoid A&E! Our nearest is closed so it’s a 20 mile trip. When will they create a phone app that can X-ray? Grin

Physio here. It could be broken with swelling like that. As long as its not numb, tingling or cold I'd elevate it and go to bed, then go get it checked at A&E in the morning.

If you have a minor injuries closer, that might be quicker - my local cottage hospital has a small x-ray department and minor injuries and its much quieter than the general hospital.

No numbness or tingling. I have a pressure bandage from last time- should I put it on?

I’ve just googled and the closer hospital is operating urgent care by appointment between 9-5 so I’ll give them a ring in the morning.

I probably wouldn't bother with a bandage over night, but would elevate it under a couple of pillows if you can.

I hope they get you sorted tomorrow and its just a bruise.

I think you need an X-ray. DD walked around on a broken foot for a week because the Dr we saw didn't X-ray it first time round (not in the U.K.), only when we returned after a week with it still swollen did he send her for an X-ray and find a broken base metatarsal.
