The street by Heathrow where the planes fly really low over the houses?

I bloody love a plane. I want to go there next time I’m in London (I live in Scotland so not very often). How do you get there without a car? Is there a tube stop? Can you walk it from Heathrow? I am
A bit clueless!!

Nearest tube is Hatton Cross on Piccadilly line. Zone 5/6. You can walk there from the station it isn't far. I worked close by some years ago. The feeling when a plane goes over your head is strangely exhilarating. Smile

Aw no way, I’m definitely going to add this to my post-Covid bucket list!

My ds and dp have been. We live in Liverpool and they drove there which took about 3.5 hours but they said it was totally worth it. My ds ( almost 18 ) has Aspergers and has been obsessed with planes since he was a toddler.

They said there is a big field there were people sit/stand etc. some bring picnics and deck chairs and make a real day of it. I think dp and ds went to a local KFC.

They have always said they will go again as ds’s best friend would love to go. We usually go to the airport pub at Manchester Airport which is at the bottom of the runway and see some great planes but they said that Heathrow was far better with some huge planes and lots of different airlines.

I suppose if you win the lottery OP and foreign travel is ever allowed again you can go Grin

The aviation museum at Gatwick has a viewing point by the runway so you can watch take off and landing. The power is incredible

I've been and it was great! Took a picnic and sat on the grass, watching the planes fly over (it was Summer). We were en route from Sussex to Yorkshire by car and took a detour, so I can't help with public transport but I would definitely recommend going if it's easy enough x

You need planes to be landing on 27L. They switch at 3pm. That is depending on wind direction though, if they are on 09s you will be wasting your time going to Myrtle- try cafe nero at terminal 5 you can sit and watch them land on 09L from there and pop outside to take pictures of you want.

Oh and do t get too close to the line of trees where they all stand taking pics at Myrtle, it's absolutely stinks of piss. Particularly bad in summer Envy < not envy!

Oh thanks extentioncord I would never have known that! I’ll file that link away for sure

This sounds like great fun!

You should watch Big Jet tv on YouTube. Highly entertaining. The guy stands at Heathrow filming jets as they land and take off. It's a live show though you can also see replays. He is very knowledgeable and also very funny.
