Giving up stuff for lent.

Ok so I said I’d give up wine for lent because it’s not doing me any favours. I’m tempted by the Sober Diaries that say I’ll look five years younger in 3 months.
I’m down to the last glass of the only bottle in the house and it’s a worry.
How do I get through to Easter? It’s half term now but it’s six full weeks till a holiday. Literally how can you you not drink a cold delicious glass of fizz to start the weekend?

I'm giving up pancakes Grin

I know what you mean though. I never drank until first lockdown when I started having a rum and coke in the evening. A year on and the thought of coke on its own just doesn't appeal and it used to be a real treat. Is there any other treat you could replace it with?

I'm giving up sugar - which means I'm currently stuffing my third chocolate bar of the day into my gob, even though I feel a bit sick, and wondering whether I can eat two Twix bars, another Turkish Delight and a 5 pack of Curly Wurlies before midnight.

(That is what is currently in the 'chocolate' tin)

I have a glass left. I only ever do wine. Of there was a free bar which didn't include wine, I'd have a couple of gins and be happy. My house will soon be a wine free space!

Gwenhwyfar · 16/02/2021 21:50

I'm giving up
pubs
cafes
restaurants

Is that not enough?
No Lent this year :)

I'm eating healthily, no cake, biscuits, chocolate, desserts etc and I bought an exercise mat. I need to loose a stone, always good to use anything extra to help.

@Thewinterofdiscontent - 'Nosecco' or one of the other alcohol free fizzes is your friend here. I've been alcohol free for 6 years following a successful abstinence for Lent!! Nosecco is a great alternative, drunk from proper flutes or made into alcohol free mocktails.

The variety of alcohol free drinks is amazing these days - gin, sparkly wine, rum, red, white and rosé wines all available.

I don't look younger but did lose weight Grin

Chocolate abstinence here!

I don't drink much anyway (and look and feel so much better since cutting right back on booze), but a lockdown chocolate habit has crept up.

It's going to be tough.

I like the idea of reading part of the Bible each day too. I'm a very irregular churchgoer and obviously haven't been at all for the last year. It's one of the things I'm missing most, especially in Lent.

Thewinterofdiscontent · 18/02/2021 17:31

@ Letsskidaddle that’s fantastic! Well done.

I’ve only done one night and I’m already missing wine on Friday and it’s only Thursday.😞
I gave up smoking last year with no problems.I never even think about fags and I smoked everyday for 20 odd years. Addiction is the weirdest thing.
