Ovens - does noone manufacture what I want? Why? Am I that weird?

Oven died and I'm mulling over options to replace it. It's a double oven, so the cavity is ~90cm.

In my ideal world I'd replace it with something the same size so I don't need to pay for cabinet changes etc, I'm not planning on redoing my kitchen for at least 5 years.

I gather lots of exciting ovens exist these days - it's my first time buying a new oven!

I have heard of combi microwave ovens, also ovens with steam functions. These both interest me. I bake a lot of bread, and I'd love to chuck my microwave and reclaim the countertop space by making my new oven have microwave.

However I cannot find anywhere a double oven which has either microwave or steam function on one/both of the oven units.

Can you seriously only buy either a bog standard double oven, or else separate single ovens with these extra features?

Pretending cost doesn't matter for a minute I'd be willing to buy two separate ovens, but then I'd need to add another electricity circuit in and remove all the cabinetry to fit them in. There would be lots of wasted space due to the two control panels.

There must be a manufacturer who has thought of this and can offer a double oven with these features. I've looked at Which online, John Lewis, and I think AEG online and I can't see it there.

Can anyone solve my problems?

Have a look at neff, they did an oven microwave combi years ago (when I was last looking) don’t know if they still do.

Maybe contact ao.com via phone and ask? Or maybe a kitchen supplier?

NotWithMyShoes · 16/02/2021 19:41

Doesn’t Bosch do one?

Miele have a steam/microwave combi.

MapGirlExtraordinaire · 16/02/2021 20:06

Ooh, the combis people mention, do you mean a double oven with one or both components with the combo function? If anyone could post a link or even a photo to your own that would be fabulous!

I cannot believe that all the manufacturers think you want either a double oven with no modern features OR a single oven with fancy features OR two separate single ovens both with fancy features!

Double ovens are such a great combo for the space they take up, but the modern features are so appealing.

Is this what 'modern women think they can have it all, but they can't' is referring to?

Bosch, my parents have one. Bottom oven is typical fan oven with grill, top oven is slightly smaller, still a fan with grill but has an integrated microwave. Mind blowingly you can use it on microwave with the metal shelves in it -wtf?!

And winningly, they both have full self cleaning function

MapGirlExtraordinaire · 16/02/2021 20:19

amiable your top one DH found but he's not convinced as it's the only one he could find and it's not Neff or Bosch etc and he therefore doesn't trust it.the single one looks fab but I've got a 89cm hole! I don't want a standard 60cm or whatever oven cos then I'd have an abyss. I was hoping I could install my own microwave into the space but apparently I can't.

Migjt do it anyway, a house fire can't be more annoying than banging my head against the computer every night trying to find a double oven which puts steam in.

Little if you happen to have a photo of your parents oven on your phone without identifying reflections in the glass front would you mind posting please?

I recently bought an Electrolux double oven KDFCC00X, after having a Neff for years. It was cheaper than the Neff, has a bigger top oven size for the top oven and has more functions than you could ever need. I love it! Oh, and it's catalytic and has removable glass panels in the doors for easy cleaning. Disclaimer: I have no connection with Electrolux, other than my oven and induction hob, which is equally brilliant!Grin

I'm very happy for you and your oven roasteros but it has neither microwave not steam so I'm still sobbing at the lack of what I want 😭

I've got two built in single neff ovens. The bottom one has a steam function / proving function with fan oven and grill. The top one is has a fan oven, grill and microwave. So pleased to get the microwave off the countertop! We got it all from John Lewis about 2 years ago.

SallyOMalley · 16/02/2021 20:52

I forgot to mention! We couldn't find a double oven that did all this but, actually, 2 x single ovens gave us the flexibility to choose exactly what we wanted (but that doesn't help if your cabinet only fits 1 x double oven which, i guess, is a smaller space ...)

MapGirlExtraordinaire · 16/02/2021 20:54

Sally I am jealous of your ovens! If it were easy to change the cabinets and electricity I would do this. Unfortunately by the time we've messed around with that then we might as well just get a new kitchen.

*possibly not literally true, but given the hassle and costs involved, it feels like it.

My neff double has a proving and bread baking function - it’s not a steamer but does prove bread perfectly well.

MapGirlExtraordinaire · 16/02/2021 21:10

I'm after the steam for cooking jelly, I've got a permanent tray going in or out of the oven whenever I bake, I'm forever slamming the door to keep steam in when I pour a kettle full in the tray.

Then there are the numerous times I forget to put the tray in so it's not warmed up and my bread spreads after I slash it whole the tray warms up. Or DH uses my bread water to make himself coffee Angry

I just want a double oven which has steam. A double oven contains one normal single and one compact single. Why on earth can't the single bit of it be a bit fancy??

Sorry, OP!
NotMeNoNo · 16/02/2021 22:27

Could you stack a compact multifunction oven and compact steam oven ?
Or move the shelf in your unit/adjust cupboard front to make the aperture bigger.

NotMeNoNo · 16/02/2021 22:36

I feel your pain by the way, I would like to put in a double oven and add open door eye level grill to the wish list. Considering a giant stack of microwave at the top and then the oven set a bit lower than usual.

Busydoingnowt · 16/02/2021 22:40

My friend has an oven like this. It’s a Neff and probably 10 years old now. I don’t know why they wouldn’t still make them.

superram · 16/02/2021 22:40

I wanted this but couldn’t get it to fit. I have 2 single ovens, a microwave/combo oven and a coffee machine.
