Talk to me about kitchen appliances

So I'm about to have a new kitchen, have several design planning appointments this week. I'm replacing all the appliances but there's so much choice!

In my last house I got everything cheap as I knew we wouldn't be staying however this will hopefully be our home for at least the next 20 years until all the kids have gone so I'm happy to pay a little more for quality!

So I want to know what brands do you recommend, what would you avoid like the plague?

Ovens - self cleaning - Catalytic liners/pyrolytic? Worth the extra or not?

Hob - induction or gas? Always had gas but leaning towards induction!

Pyrolytic ovens are the absolute business. Only ever have to clean the glass door now. Amazing!

Can't comment on brands etc as I have never found much consistency between them, other than that Miele has consistently lasted for yonks, but they are so expensive we rarely do go for them.
