Knitting emergency! Can anyone help?

Coming to the end of a knitting project (jumper for D's) and look set to run out of yarn right before the end. If anyone has a small amount I could buy I'd be eternally grateful. It's an Aldi Aran yarn in Burgundy. I'll try to attach a pic of the ball band. Even the tiniest amount would help as I think I'll run out with less than half of the neck to do.

Cant help with the yarn but have you looked on ravelry or Ebay for anyone selling it? Alternatively, could you knit the neck band in a contrasting colour?

Kittytheteapot · 16/02/2021 11:42

Or Etsy?

You might find the correct shade but if the dyelots don't match then the colour will look wrong once the neckband is knitted up.
A contrasting yarn might be the safest option.

I've not tried Etsy - will take a look. There's none on eBay at the moment and nobody's got it listed on ravelry as for sale. A few people have it in stash on ravelry though. If it comes to it I might try a begging message - less than 50g would be enough. Unfortunately I don't think a contrasting collar would work well bit I guess if I can't find it I may have no choice... Thanks!

Here's the Ravelry page.

There aren't any for sale but it's worth messaging the people with partial skeins as they may be willing to part with their leftovers. Not for sale or trade is the default setting and most people don't know or bother to change it. Be prepared for a rude reply though as some react as if you've asked to borrow their partner for a night of debauchery.

I know the dyelot may be an issue but hoped if I did the whole collar in it it might be close enough. On paper I thought I had loads - more than needed for next size up but I didn't check yardage, only yarn weight. Live and learn! Thanks again all

I’d try message a raveler that has some. You could have a look at the tone of their messages and see if you think you’d get a friendly reply even if it’s a no! Hope you find something!

TheFairyCaravan · 16/02/2021 11:57

There’s a Facebook group called “Poundland, Aldi & more bargain yarn destash group” maybe try there?

Good luck

yetanothersenmum · 16/02/2021 12:02

Ooh - I'll look on that Facebook group, thanks. Am prepared to face any ravelry wrath. I'm a desperate woman!

To make things worse I've just spotted a mistake in cabling. Would normally undo and repair but don't think I dare chance it.Sad

I’m a longtime MumsNet lurker and literally just registered to answer your plea. I’m in Ireland, but I have loads of this exact yarn and I’m happy to send some on to you. Smile

katmarie · 16/02/2021 12:27

This is why I love mumsnet :) What a lovely thing to do @immisceo

Incidentally is Aldi yarn any good? I often look at it when I go in, but am never sure of how it will be to knit with?

yetanothersenmum · 16/02/2021 12:27

Thanks so much that's amazing!! Will pm you Grin

I quite like this one as it’s 80% acrylic and 20% wool, so it washes well and is definitely economical, but it doesn’t have the plasticy feel of some of the 100% acrylics. I definitely stock up when I see it!
