COVID one (sorry) about collecting a new car??

So I have found and placed a deposit on a second hand car, it’s 110 miles away, the dealer phoned me this morning to tell me the earliest I can have it delivered is the 1st March.

I need the car for work (I’m a essential/critical) worker and desperately need a car to get to work my other has gone boom and completely not fixable hence needing to get a new one. I have looked a bit more locally but some of the reviews of the garages haven’t been great.

Am I allowed to collect it? Obviously it will mean borrowing my parents car (I’m on the insurance) and me and Dh going to collect it? I’m just worried we are going to be hit with a fine for non essential travel.

I’m trying to see if I can borrow my parents but it’s not looking like I can at the moment

If you need it for work (like you're a community nurse) then go and get it.

I’m not a nurse but work for local government and I travel to and from places to do my work. Think I’m more like a social worker but not social work.

I’m going to have to go and get it this weekend if I am to get to work Monday (on annual leave) and if I get a fine try and appeal it if you can.

Personally I would think it's fine to go and get it OP, you need it for work and it's just you and DH going to get it so not interacting with anyone else. Although I'm not sure what the rules technically are but I would think it's allowed

Yes you are allowed to collect a car - there is a specific reason in the legislation for leaving your house to collect goods ordered on a click and collect basis
See para 2 (2) (h) of the legislation and also look at sites such as Autotrader which explain how you can buy a car on click and collect

I think that's an essential journey if you can't work without it.
