We (DH especially!) has always wanted to do a barn conversion. A derelict barn has come up for sale near us, for £100k. DH has asked his parents and they can lend us the £100k to buy it outright (there's apparently a fair bit of interest so we don't have time to list our house and wait for it to sell). We can pay them back once our house sells and the new mortgage comes through.
We'd have to live in a caravan on site until the place was liveable (with 2 kids and a dog 😬) Is it going to be a total nightmare? We're no strangers to DIY, our current house was a renovation project, when we moved in the place had had minimal work done since the 70's. We've done absolutely everything ourselves apart from gas/electric.
TLDR- Are we insane to be planning on buying a derelict barn and doing it up?
