Has anyone had the (Oxford) Astrazeneca jab and felt dire afterwards?

Had mine yesterday (thank you NHS ) and by evening felt awful.. pounding head, fluey type body aches all over and this morning feel like I've been run over! I'm sure it will pass soon and thank heavens it's half term (I'm a Special School TA) so can feel ill in relative peace. Just wondered how common it was to react?

Me! Had it Friday morning and by evening felt just like you. Started to feel human again yesterday evening but still a bit headachey today.

Still worth it though!

Aurorie11 · 15/02/2021 11:31

Had mine Friday, woke up early hours of Saturday feeling cold, had to have a nap Saturday afternoon.
OK now, just thinking positively that my body is having an immune response

Yaty · 15/02/2021 11:32

Yes felt awful, flu like and temperature for about 24 hours after then from tired out for another day or two

KarmaNoMore · 15/02/2021 11:33

There was an article the other day about at least 40% of people feeling unwell after vaccination, with effects lasting up to 2 weeks so hold in there.

MacDuffsMuff · 15/02/2021 11:33

Yep! I had mine on the Thursday morning and felt fine all day then started to feel 'odd' at about 6pm. By 8 I was freezing cold and achey (had about 4 layers and a blanket and was still cold). Was up a lot in the night sweating and headachey. Felt dire the next day then fine after that. MIL had it and was absolutely fine but my SIL was the same as me.

Do you mind me asking what age group your in OP, my sister (vaccination nurse) says that older people appear to be tolerating it better than those a bit younger.

Like you though, I'm just grateful to have had the first part of the vaccine.

FreezerBird · 15/02/2021 11:36

DH felt rough after his, for a day or so. The nurse said that younger people had worse side effects but wouldn't be drawn on where DH sits on the young/old spectrum (he's 43).

His boss (late 60s) was fine, while several colleagues in their 20s phoned in sick the next day.

RatherBeRiding · 15/02/2021 11:38

My DD felt absolutely dreadful for a full 24 hours after having it, but she's mid 20s (front line healthcare) and has already had CV and apparently if you are young and have already had the virus your side effects are worse.

supercritter · 15/02/2021 11:39

Me bad flu type symptoms for 24 hours and feeling a little tired for a few more days

Rillington · 15/02/2021 11:39

I felt fine. Arm was slightly tender to touch but otherwise nothing.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 15/02/2021 11:40

Had mine at about 9.30 am, fine till about 9 pm, sudden onset of very flu-like shivers and shakes. Went straight to bed.

Miles better by the morning.

Dh OTOH had no reaction at all.
(We’re both pretty ancient, he’s a bit more ancient than me.)

Theseptemberissues · 15/02/2021 11:43

I had mine last Thursday, no side effects at all, not even an achy arm. 32yrs old. Smile

ThatDamnKrampus · 15/02/2021 11:44

Yes me, but still so grateful to have had it.

I had a skull crushing headache that lasted a few days (it got less as it went on but the first two days were hell), pins and needles in the arm that was jabbed, and palpitations that lasted maybe 15 minutes or so afterwards.

2 weeks on I am fine - have my second dose booked in April and if I get more side effects then so be it - it isn't pleasant but the alternative could be worse.

StillMedusa · 15/02/2021 11:44

MacDuffsMuff I'm 53... so oldish?! Grin A couple of my colleagues also feel dire and we vary between 25 and 55. Hoping it passes soon...

I had the AZ on Saturday 10.30am, felt fine until the evening, didn't sleep well, felt ok the next day, no headache just achey, I'm 48, no worse than the flu jab last year to be honest
My boss (73) had it last week and felt rough for a few days but was still in work

Bananarama3star · 15/02/2021 11:45

Yes same as you OP. Had mine yesterday and 11/12 hours later shivering, headache etc. Feel rough today still, very achey.

timtam23 · 15/02/2021 11:47

I had mine last month and had to take the next day off work because of cold shivers, aching all over, headache, nausea. Couldn't get out of bed for most of that day but was ok to go back to work the second day after having it. 2 of my colleagues had the same response, one definitely previously had covid and the other (like me) probably hasn't (negative antibody tests). I'm mid-40s, colleagues are early 50s

MacDuffsMuff · 15/02/2021 11:47

@StillMedusaYou're exactly the same age as me. 😊 It'll pass, I felt ok by two days later just a bit tired.

ThatDamnKrampus · 15/02/2021 11:48

Oh, see people asking about age upthread: I am early 40's - DH and DD1 both had just come out of having CV (I was negative in the tests I had - last one two days before vaccine). I do suspect I had it March last year but like many others was unable to get a test (took months to fully recover from whatever it was - symptoms were inline with covid symptoms).

BoogleMcGroogle · 15/02/2021 11:48

Yup! Just posted in another section about this. Had my jab yesterday afternoon and I’ve just given up on today and gone back to bed. Apparently being younger ( yay me at a tender 42) and having had Covid puts me at higher risk of a reaction.

On the plus side, it does show the vaccination is doing it’s job! I hope everyone feels better soon. We did the right thing choosing to be vaccinated.

YouLando · 15/02/2021 11:50

My sister's 39 and felt really poorly for about 48 hours after her Oxford-AZ jab. Terrible headache, flu-like symptoms, muscle aches, sickness etc.

Livpool · 15/02/2021 11:51

My DPs had theirs last week and my DM was the same for about 18 hours afterwards. Has been fine since. DF was fine

YouLando · 15/02/2021 11:52

OTOH, my parents in their mid and late 70s only had painful arms and mild headaches afterwards.

bestbitsbetter · 15/02/2021 11:57

I'm 37. I felt feverish and very tired for a couple of days, then that passed, and my arm suddenly went lumpy and really hurt to use the muscle in my upper arm.

It's nearly a week later, and I almost feel back to normal.

itsgettingwierd · 15/02/2021 11:58

My workplace had 50/50 split of Pfizer and AZ.

Only 1 person who had pfeizer had any side effects beyond a few sore arms.

Half of the people who had AZ felt like you for 24-48 hours afterwards and 2 had a bad headache for 4 days.

VaccsyPoxsy · 15/02/2021 12:03

There is another thread where people update regularly so that people who are getting the vaccines are better informed and prepared re childcare etc
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4140247-Oxford-AstraZeneca-vaccine-and-the-side-effects

Be warned there were some posters kicking and screaming in there about gaslighting - it’s really silly as people have a right to be informed
