Has anyone had the (Oxford) Astrazeneca jab and felt dire afterwards?

Had mine yesterday (thank you NHS ) and by evening felt awful.. pounding head, fluey type body aches all over and this morning feel like I've been run over! I'm sure it will pass soon and thank heavens it's half term (I'm a Special School TA) so can feel ill in relative peace. Just wondered how common it was to react?

Really wish I'd seen that thread before I had mine, it would have reassured me that it was normal to feel rubbish afterwards.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 15/02/2021 13:31

My DS1(27) had the Pfizer and was fine
However 3 of his older colleagues( 40-50) suffered with flu like symptoms for 48 hours
I'm 56 group 6 so I think I'll expect to feel rough, then it's a bonus if not
Reassuring to know it's normal though
Oh sorry, colleagues had the Oxford

BoogleMcGroogle · 15/02/2021 13:32

Me too McDuff. I’d have at least asked dh to take a day off. As it is, he’s working, with loads of meetings and the kids are seeing to themselves (cold sausage sarnies, iPad, substandard dog supervision).

barberousbarbara · 15/02/2021 13:44

I felt awful after mine (44 and CEV). I was ok for the first 12 hours then felt very off colour with a headache and fatigue. It lasted about 24 hours then I felt fine, apart from a sore arm. I'm hoping the 2nd jab isn't as bad.

notacooldad · 15/02/2021 13:49

A group of us had it at work.
Most were ok apart from the expected dead arm after a vaccination. Interestingly the three people who were really poorly, so much they were off sick for a week and still not great now are the ones that had already been ill with Covid. No one else has been poorly with covid.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 15/02/2021 13:54

Hi. I work as a practice nurse. Theres an (unproven) school of thought at the moment that those who feel awful after the vaccine have had the covid virus recently.

DinosaurDiana · 15/02/2021 13:56

I felt crap the day after, went back to bed, then felt slightly iffy the day after. But then I was ok.

Mumoftwoinprimary · 15/02/2021 13:58

My mum (69) had quite a bad headache for a few days after hers.

My dad (72) had no symptoms at all. According to my mum there was a level of smugness about this as usually it is my mum who is the healthy one.

cobblers123 · 15/02/2021 14:01

Two friends had theirs Friday and Saturday. Friday friend absolutely fine, Saturday friend felt lousy, very tired and had bad headache Sunday.

Am hoping I get Pfizer one when it's my turn.Grin

PearlHeart · 15/02/2021 14:29

Yeah I had mine on Saturday 13th 12.30

by 10pm that night I could barely move my arm, couldn't lie on it or lift it up!
I had a terrible fever of 38.2 alongside a headache and body aches!

This persisted all Sunday 14th This morning (15th) I'm so so tired, my arm is still sore and have a lingering headache!

I don't know if I'm feeling extra rotten as I had covid in March for 6/7 weeks with a week in hospital! And having long covid symptoms still so I don't know I'm I'm just wiped out with the combination of it all!
(I'm 29 with chronic asthma )

DinosApple · 15/02/2021 14:33

Me. I had the shivers and shakes, felt nauseous and had a fever of 39 degrees last night after I had it (yesterday lunchtime).

My colleague also had it at the same time and felt the same (both 30s and 40s, both possibly had Covid last March) Just felt headachy, achy and tired this morning, temp gone.

I saw the other thread, but like some one else has said, it is reassuring to know that it is a very common response. I'd much rather feel shit for 48 hours than have a bad case of Covid.

Two great aunts had the AZ and were fine.

Gilead · 15/02/2021 14:36

Dd (24) felt headachy and fluey for a couple of days. Fine now though.

Bouledeneige · 15/02/2021 14:43

My Dad (91) had it and had no side effects so maybe that supports the age hypothesis.

BIWI · 15/02/2021 14:46

I'm 61. No underlying health issues and haven't had Covid (to my knowledge!). I had mine on Saturday and all I've had has been a slightly sore/stiff arm. Just like when I had my flu jab. But no other side effects.

viques · 15/02/2021 14:48

Felt fine about ten hours in, but then felt overwhelmingly tired. Took to my bed for a day and a half. Didn’t get the chills, headache or fever that others have reported but was pleased that my body was responding to the vaccine and was presumably churning out some antibodies to protect me against the virus. Thanks body.

Alwaysready · 15/02/2021 14:53

@stillmedusa you may well be a colleague as I'm in special needs school too, lots of my colleagues are feeling terrible too. I've had mine today, bit if a sore arm but ok. Another colleague in bed feeling dire. We got the go ahead friday night that council said we could book- they're not daft doing it in half term!
Hope you feel better soon. Water and paracetamol seem to be the way forward x

MacDuffsMuff · 15/02/2021 15:03

@Letsallscreamatthesistene I've been told that by another nurse recently too. If I've had it I had no symptoms at all (although of course I know that's possible). Love your user name btw. Smile

drudgewithagrudge · 15/02/2021 15:39

I'm 72. Felt poorly for 24 hours and took paracetamol. Slept for 12 hours then back to normal. Arm not as painful as it is after the flu jab. Felt very dizzy for half an hour after having it. Grateful to get it and the efficiency and friendliness of the NHS staff and volunteers really impressed me.

goingtotown · 15/02/2021 15:50

No symptoms, but I did take 2 paracetamol as a preventative measure when I got back to the car.

sheslittlebutfierce · 15/02/2021 15:59

DD2 had it (32) and was proper poorly for a week! Mind she is a sickly soul

QueenPaw · 15/02/2021 16:15

My parents in their 70s - both had covid. Not even a sore arm (AZ)
Me (mid thirties) - never had covid. Unwell for 24hrs, v sore arm, headache, temp (AZ)

Ismellphantoms · 15/02/2021 16:21

Me 71. I was ill for days. High temperature, feeling like I'd been run over. Mt sister also had AZ and was just as ill as me. She's 59. My DH 76 had the Pfizer and was fine.

Momsincharge · 15/02/2021 16:25

I had AZ on Saturday morning. Felt really tired all Saturday. Went to bed early. A little achy in joints and muscles, bit of a headache , but not horrendous. I was normal by Sunday dinner time. I’m 49. I may have had COVID end of last March, but a mild case.

The reaction makes me think it was doing something!

StillMedusa · 15/02/2021 16:49

Alwaysready West Oxfordshire special school starting with an S by any chance?!

Beach11 · 15/02/2021 16:53

Hope you feel better soon
