Husband making an afternoon tea - light-hearted

Dh asked me what I wanted for valentines day and I asked him for a proper afternoon tea. He's got the Internet, ingredients and an M&S at the bottom of the street. It's for 4 (us and kids) and for around 4.i have prosecco in the fridge and I'm veggie.
What do you think I'll get?

cucumber sandwiches, egg and cress sandwiches and scones!

delilahbucket · 14/02/2021 09:02

I think you'll get a really lovely afternoon with your family 😁

DoItYourselfNeverHappensAtOurs · 14/02/2021 09:04

I think it sounds a wonderful idea. i am about to go and look at what we have in to see if we can do something similar!

EventuallyDeleted · 14/02/2021 09:05

Percy Pigs? M&S have some lovely little macarons in pretty colours and flavours so hopefully those.

debbrianna · 14/02/2021 09:10

The meal deal for two and all four of you share. I only want to see what happens

Fairydustrust · 14/02/2021 09:20

Going from experience, probably something with beans and oven chips Grin

toastandbutterat5am · 14/02/2021 09:38

What a superb idea.

Now in my dreams, I would be getting a home-made cake, with billowing clouds of whipped cream, tiny wild strawberries (in Feb?!) and a dusting of icing sugar. There would be elegant savoury pastry things, hot out of the oven and melt in the mouth. Champagne would be chilled and there would be tea in a big, beautiful china teapot because I like that too!

Reality would probably be some individual pork pies, a packet of scones with spread and a squirty cream and an instant coffee. However, as it is the thought that counts and it would be done with love, that would be just fine Cake Brew

PedrosPony · 14/02/2021 09:39

We're doing the same but we're all chipping in, DD has made cheese scones and is doing sweet ones later, DH has made brownies, I'm doing sandwiches and mini Victoria sponges with DS. Rest of it we've bought from iceland!

Howcanwehelp · 14/02/2021 10:09

I'm loving these and sharing with dh. He's not bad in kitchen but is worried about getting it wrong. No cakes will be homemade as I'm the Baker, but he'll try and it will be a nice family activity, something different. I've put on a new bra and proper top and jeans as well!

He's come home with rainbow tulips, baklava, mini fruit merangines, and seed bread. I know we've got scones so he's got a great start :-)

I wonder if he will go finger sandwiches or triangles. Always a dilemma.
Will you post a pic of the final product?

Howcanwehelp · 14/02/2021 14:46

OK he made it for lunch, not tea but that's OK. We had finger sandwiches (egg, brie and ham for the meat eaters), sausage rolls, cheese and onion rolls, scones, little merangines cakes and baklava. Prosecco for me and pop for everyone else. The dining room table was cleared of school stuff so we could be civilised. 10/10

Also there's crusts and ends left over so I'll be making bread and butter pudding.

I did one yesterday - mostly from M&S. Scones with jam and cream, victoria sponge sandwich, mini Quiche, heart shaped mini chocolates etc.

KitKat1985 · 14/02/2021 17:04

That sounds lovely. Very thoughtful and he put a decent bit of effort in. Smile

SparkyBlue · 14/02/2021 17:18

That sounds absolutely lovely OP.

ImInStealthMode · 14/02/2021 17:35

Very nice OP! We had afternoon tea takeaway today from the hotel we should have been staying at this weekend (rolled over from our December anniversary, now rolled over until god knows when).

It made a nice change and now we're laying on the sofa like 2 little pigs wrapped in a blanket.

BlackeyedSusan · 14/02/2021 17:44

Lovely.
