I just can’t lose weight...

...and it’s really getting me down.

I’m not a stupid woman, I understand what to eat and I need to move more etc, I just can’t do it. I’m 33 and literally over double the weight I was at 16. I weigh a stone and a half more than when DS, 4.5, was born at 42 weeks.

If you were to choose something to give up for lent, would you do carbs or sugar? If I’m being honest I don’t Think I could do sugar so it might have to be giving up sugar I haven’t made at home or something.

Maybe carbs!

Carbs are sugar. As soon as you eat them, your body has to turn them into sugar in order to process them. So, the less you can eat from the 'carbs/sugar' collection, the better.

So, give up whatever feels do-able to you.

Cutting back is also helpful, so, you could quit carbs and have a bit less sugar.

I'm chuckling at the asss therapist who told you ''I can't work with you any more''. Because you correctly called it that the chiiiineeeeeez virusss would be a big deal. You were right. And as for issues with men, bloody hell, find me a woman who hasn't been disappointed / disgusted/ assualted / used (or all of the above) by a man.

Sugar is the carbiest carb.

Try and cut back on sugar as much as you can.

Visualise the insulin spike that you're going to get every time you eat sugar. That insulin spike is a message to your body ''store fat'' which basically means Get Fat.

Having no illusions about that helps.

It's more than just the calories. You might have two squares of chocolate and think but it's fewer calories than in a slice of wholemeal soda bread with peanut butter. But the first of those two options will send the message ''get fat'' more than the second one.

have you listened to Marisa Peer on line? She has a lot of guided meditations to feel good about yourself while losing weight and knows the two are linked.

Yes. Also your body will say to itself 'Do not use any stored fat until we have worked through this lovely carb fuel first'.

OP I see another poster has recommended the new Dr Rangan Chatterjee book - it's definitely worth a read it's not like a "diet book" it genuinely gets you thinking about realistic eating. Good luck!

I’ve started the day with some yoga, albeit cosmic kids with DS Grin

yoga is good because it ties in with kindness to yourself. I used to punish myself doing workouts every day and feeling a weak undisciplined failure if I didn't do it every day!

yoga floating school - 30 minute warrior flow is a good one for beginners. No complicated moves but it keeps you moving. Good for balance.

I’ll look that up, thank you!

I did start the couch to 5k back in 2019 and got on well with it up until about week 4. I had really bad SPD during pregnancy and it never really sorted itself out. It was so painful in the end that I went to the physio and he basically told me off for trying to run without first sorting my core out as it was really weak, to the point where my already dodgy hips weren’t secure enough (or something, I can’t remember exactly!)

Then that year my dad died out of the blue and three months later DP had a MASSIVE breakdown, including hallucinations and self harm and an insistence that it was my fault and me and DS needed to leave. All exercise and healthy eating and self care went out the window and I fell back into binging/purging as I mentioned above.

I’m hoping that yoga and the ballet workouts that I enjoy will strengthen my core and then maybe start up the couch to 5k again.

DS and I have just walked (well, he cycled) 4 miles, including climbing a Little Rock.
