Painful neck - trapped nerve?

I am on day seven now of an incredibly painful neck, at first I thought I had just slept strangely, but then it got progressively worse.

It is so painful I have tried massaging it with hot stones but I feel like I've made it worse, I am booked to see an osteopath tomorrow evening, any other tips to get me till then? I think it might be trapped nerve but it's painful across my whole neck. I've had a warm compress on it too.

Have you tried applying a cold pack rather than a warm one? If it’s inflamed, heat will worsen it. I know it’s a bit chilly outside to be applying ice packs, but it might help.

I has this, and it was apparently a symptom of dangerously high BP (post natal). Check your BP if you haven't already.

I've had BP checked 2 weeks ago about 15 times as I had a procedure on my back.

Yes I can try cool thanks

What did you have done to your back OP?

Any pain in your shoulder or down your arm? Pins and needles/electrical pains?

doadeer · 12/02/2021 20:32

I had steroids injected into my facet joints.

Nothing down my arms.

Thankfully seeing osteopath tomorrow so I can check it's nothing worrying

Good luck with your app, make sure you tell them about the injections!

Yes who knows might be connected to my back. I've had a hell of a few years with pelvis and back. I've just come off coedine after a long time

I've had neck pain a few times now, the pain starts in the neck & radiates down the arm. Sleeping is awful & I will struggle to get out of bed.
dr diagnosed torticollis/wry neck, & prescribed strong codeine, naproxen & one time diazepam. They are happy to triage and send out the prescription via the phone.
Nothing really touches the pain but it took the edge off (made it hard to work in a drug fug) my work offers physio over the phone, best thing I recomend is to Google exercises / stretches & do them regularly.
It easily takes me 3 weeks to feel noticeably better. It happens for me approx every 3 yrs, but I now when feel it creeping up & i start the exercises as soon as I feel a twinge & that sometimes stops it.
Stick on heat pack from wilkos helped, (slightly better than the microwave heat packs because you dont have to keep heating them up)

What exercises do you do? I workout a few times a week currently lots of back/torso.

That sounds terrible! I'll read up on it

Me too, very badly. A couple of my discs in my neck also went and it was the worsening neck pain that was the start of it. Also if you've been injected in to your canal that can trigger it as well. Hopefully it will be something and nothing for you!

It could be an infection - worst neck pain I've ever had radiated up the back of my head. Turned out to be an ear infection.

HandlebarLadyTash · 12/02/2021 22:30

It was a mixture of strengthening & some stretches. I've found some of the stretches.
I'm supposed to do the strengthening ones daily but like every good pupil I stopped as soon as the pain went

Thanks everyone! I'm so frustrated I've just got some relief from 2.5 years of back issues and my neck starts up! Just my luck 🙄
