Self narrating

Does anyone else kids have a habit of self narrating their every move? Is it an age thing or are they looking for attention/validation? I’m FT WFH with 2 kids, so it may well be a need for attention.

Watching with interest. DS is an only child so I have no comparator for whether his constant chuntering is normal (he's 8), a symptom of ASD or ADHD, or neither and he's a gobshite Grin

This made me laugh. My eldest didn’t do this so it’s all new to me and in the current climate (FT WFH with 2 kids) it’s driving me up the bloody wall! 😂 of course the flip side is internalising which I obvs don’t want...but maybe just some way of reducing it!

I’m no help but this has brought back terrifying memories of my self narrating colleague who drove me mad.
Please help them to grow out of it over the next few years. Before they start work.

Aha I remember reading about this once. It’s perfectly normal and gets quieter as they age before being internalised around age 10

@TastyMcNameChange 10?!! Oh Jesus.
