Essential oils - Which is your favourite, why, and how do you use it / what do you use it for?

Well, I’ve just bought myself a box of essential oils, downloaded a book on Kindle, and thought I’d start a positive lockdown thread.

Currently, I’m using eucalyptus oil in my electric air purifier (it has an inbuilt aromatherapy part where you can add oils to the sponge), that’s good, seems to mask cooking smells and clears the air) and I am looking forward to trying out the others in the box when it arrives today (it’s dangerous, that Amazon prime 😃).

So, although the book has given me ideas already, I’m curious to know what people like etc as per my thread title, plus I like a positive lockdown thread).
TYIA 🌸

eucalyptus - pour a few drops into a hot bath to help clear airways and help with tension headaches. Also good to sniff when travelling and feel sick.

I love vetivert. It is deeply relaxing, great in the bath or a few drops in body lotion. If I'm feeling lazy/knackered, I just put a drop directly on my wrist, and breathe in deeply. I'm a chronic insomniac, and I find it works better than lavender, chamomile etc.

That’s handy to know, @AnotherCrazyBirdLady! I am an insomniac too, so I’ll add vetivert on to my list 🙂

I’ll try the eucalyptus in my bath later @Grossedout12, as I have a cold coming on.

I like the idea of burning essential oils for a nice fragrance in the house, but I can't help feeling if air fresheners are bad for our lungs in some way these oils must be too?

I use peppermint oil on cotton wool balls in my wardrobes and drawers to deter the dreaded clothes moths (tip I think I might have read on here) and must admit it does seem to help.

Lavender and bergamot in my essential oil diffuser.

I love eucalyptus too –my grandmother used to always have a big bunch hanging in her bathroom from the florist, so every time the room got steamy it would smell amazing.

Not sure if my enjoyment of it is just nice memories or because it's really effective, but I love to hang a bunch every now and again when I'm feeling decadent (it looks really pretty too).

@notsosmoothie, that sounds a good idea 🛀 might pay a visit to the florist later ..

When I receive mine, I’ll post some ideas.

I’ve also ordered a little essential oils journal now to jot things down, really looking forward to getting started 🙂.
