Am I the only one not submerging myself in ice water every day?

I follow a lot of health, fitness and wellbeing accounts on Instagram and everyone seems to be caught up in this trend. Basically, you fill a bath with ice water, plunge yourself in for 5 minutes, then jump out looking energised and renewed. Some people are even lowering themselves into frozen lakes. You also need to film yourself doing this and tag Wim Hof every single time.

I actually started browsing for a foldable ice bath on Amazon before coming to my senses and remembering it takes me half hour to get in a heated pool let alone a bucket of ice.

I haven’t seen anyone doing anything like this since the ice bucket challenge.

I think when you get to the point of browsing Amazon for foldable ice baths it is time to come off social media.

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 11/02/2021 22:19

You must be looking for this stuff and the algorithms keep sending you more if the same. I haven't seen any of it, apart from a mate who goes sea swimming in Brighton at the weekend.

Win Hoff is great. I love watching his YouTube videos

BullshitVivienne · 11/02/2021 22:19

I'm wondering about the logistics of a foldable ice bath. Where are you getting all the ice from? Or do you just leave it outside and let it freeze overnight?

AIMD · 11/02/2021 22:20

I’ve been doing since Xmas.......
A lot of people do seem to be doing it and it only gonna get worse now jo wickes is at it too. Sorry op!

MistleTOEboughski · 11/02/2021 22:21

Not today, Wim Hof, not today!

BaggoMcoys · 11/02/2021 22:22

I joined OLD for two days and one of the guys I spoke to told me he was doing this! I most definitely am not and never will be voluntarily submerging myself into ice cold water.

ThursdayLastWeek · 11/02/2021 22:22

Where do you get that much ice everyday?

I thought you were saying this because of all the wild swimmers on here!

No, I have cold showers in heatwaves but that's the extent of it at the mo.

I didn't even know a foldable bath was a thing!

MistleTOEboughski · 11/02/2021 22:23

We dudeists like our baths warm, with candles and whale music and ideally no marmots.

The garden?
Mandalakia · 11/02/2021 22:24

Not Joe Wicks! That's it, it'll be on the school curriculum when they finally go back.

DH has been trying cold showers so I thought I'd give it a go. We now seem to be competing for who can go the coldest for longest. I'm not sure it's having any physical effect tbh...

LunaHeather · 11/02/2021 22:24

Also, why would you need a separate bath?

Sickoffamilydrama · 11/02/2021 22:24

I actually really want to do this but wild swimming, although I this cold it's wild dipping for about 30 seconds seen Trinny Woodall do it on Instagram and it reminded me I lived wild swimming as a teen. Only problem is my local river has the town's runoff so don't fancy that!

Strugglingtodomybest · 11/02/2021 22:25

I've been invited to go sea swimming this year by four different friends, so far. No fucking way Jose! I don't even go in in the summer so why on earth would I want to in the winter?!

Mandalakia · 11/02/2021 22:25

Foldable bath

I've not heard of this, but sea swimming seems to have become a thing. A very not sporty colleague went before work this morning with snow on the ground!

LunaHeather · 11/02/2021 22:37

@Mandalakia

Foldable bath
Yes but why wouldn't you use your regular bath, unless you don't have one of course.
Serena1977 · 11/02/2021 22:38

I think it's supposed to strengthen the immune system and mental health by causing the body, stress, which lessens the amount of times you do it.

I try and have cold showers but that's about it.

boredwiththeoldname · 11/02/2021 22:39

Am I the only one who thinks this whole idea is bonkers?

o8O8O8o · 11/02/2021 22:40

Getting cold is supposed to be good for the immune system I like running in the cold but I don't fancy ice baths😮

JackieWeaver4PM · 11/02/2021 22:41

All sounds very 1940s Catholic institution to me. The people running those places also said it was good for you.
