I used to do 30C but since Covid I've gone up to 60C and now I feel that if I were to go back to 30C my clothes wouldn't be properly clean again!

Towels and bedding go in at 80C.

Nothing so far seems to be suffering from the higher temperatures in terms of wear/tear.

Mostly 60, but drop back to 40 for wools and stuff

halcyondays · 11/02/2021 16:44

Clothes 40 unless delicates which are 30
Bedding 60
Towels 90

bellropes · 11/02/2021 16:44

40 C for everything. I use Dettol laundry cleanser instead of conditioner to make sure they're hygienic.

I tend to do 40, only because that’s the only cycle on my washing machine that is vaguely quick. Some of the hotter cycles seem to last for 2/3 hours?!

dementedpixie · 11/02/2021 16:45

Mostly 40⁰C with the odd 60⁰C for bedding and towels. Never higher than that except when doing a drum clean

Misericordia · 11/02/2021 16:45

40

Figgyboa · 11/02/2021 16:45

30c for regular wash, 90c for towels, bedding, whites with bleach

PizzasTonight · 11/02/2021 16:47

Similar to a pp:
Clothes 40
Bedding 60
Towels/Tea Towels 90

Nonamesavail · 11/02/2021 16:49

30 or 40 for everything

Persipan · 11/02/2021 16:51

40, because my machine doesn't go down to 30 (it's old).

BertieBotts · 11/02/2021 16:54
  1. Occasionally if something is gross or a smell doesn't shift then 60.
ForeverBubblegum · 11/02/2021 16:54

Most things at 30, cloth nappies and bedding (not together) at 60

itsgettingwierd · 11/02/2021 16:56

30-40°.

Higher for underwear, tea towels and towels which I wash together at 60° on a wash and dry cycle.

Poshjock · 11/02/2021 16:56

Day to day clothes 30. Work wear, gardening clothes, soiled - 40 or 60.
Towels and underwear - 60. Bedding - guest min use 40, mine 60. Dog blankets 60.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 11/02/2021 16:57

40°

Hand towels (bought a load of a specific style of tea towels - different to our actual tea towels) get soaked in dettol cleanse for a couple of hours before they're washed. As fo tea towels/dish clothes (separately to hand towels)

But everything gets washed at 40°. Washed on a full wash (which on mine is about 1hr40m).not crammed & I use Ariel pods. I just don't feel a higher temperature is necessary.

Quornflakegirl · 11/02/2021 16:58

Clothes and bedding at 40 and towels and tea towels at 60.

Sprig1 · 11/02/2021 16:58

40 for everything. Just powder, at a much lower rate than the manufacturer recommends. No conditioner. We have a farm, clothes are often v dirty, but I have never had issues with clothes not coming out clean.

KatyaZamolodchikova · 11/02/2021 16:58

@Figgyboa

30c for regular wash, 90c for towels, bedding, whites with bleach
Same. Except I don’t use bleach for whites I use a pre wash cycle with a whites specific stain remover.
TheFairyCaravan · 11/02/2021 16:59

Clothes 40
Towels and bedding 60

SnuggyBuggy · 11/02/2021 16:59

Mostly 40 unless delicate. I remember trying doing my laundry at 30 at putting half of it back in as it wasn't properly clean.

Muskox · 11/02/2021 16:59

40 for everything

Chasingsquirrels · 11/02/2021 17:00

60°c for everything except wool/hand-wash which go on the wool/delicates cycle.
Dog bedding and toys on 90°c every so often.

BakewellGin1 · 11/02/2021 17:03

40 for all clothing and switch between a short cycle (tops/trousers) and long cycle (pants, socks, Boxers)
60 for towels
40 long wash for bedding

redcandlelight · 11/02/2021 17:05

mostly the 40 eco programme.
bedding warmer but still a long eco programme.

PurpleFadesToGreen · 11/02/2021 17:06

40 for darks.
60 for whites and bedding.
90 for towels and tea towels.

Quick wash is 30, use that for a freshen wash rather than a wash wash.
