DH's 'joke' backfired (lighthearted)

Our online food shop was delivered in Tuesday. All good except for a couple of substitutes, one being cherry bakewell's in place of empire biscuits. I was a bit gutted as I do like an empire but not bad as an alternative.

Tuesday night I asked DH if he wanted one and he said, 'no, I don't like them'. Ah well, all the more for me (6 in a box).

Last night I went for another and to be polite, asked if he was sure he didn't want one. Again, he said 'no thanks'.

Fast forward to lunchtime today, he was in the kitchen and all I hear is, 'HardcoreParkour, have you eaten all the cherry bakewell's.' (There's one left 😳🙈). I said 'yeah, you said you didn't like them'. His huffy reply was, 'I was joking' 😂😂😂😂😂😂

That'll teach him to say what he means and mean what he says! Jokes are meant to be funny 😂😂😂😂

Anyone else had a similar situation?

@HardcoreParkour Ha! One should never 'joke' about food. I am with you; not funny and means it is within your rights to eat all six at one time, if you so desire!

Similar-ish, my DP asked what I fancied for dinner at the weekend, and I said I liked the idea of something with mash. He likes to experiment with food, and asked if I wanted peanut butter mash. I said I was up for trying it. He didn't admit anything, but something flickered behind his eyes that clearly said he was joking but now felt too bad to mention it, in case I was really excited about the peanut butter mash. Roll on dinner, he has made garlic mash... but also a small side of peanut butter mash for me to try Grin

For anyone wondering, it was actually really tasy.

Ilovebigmacs · 11/02/2021 14:58

I don't think he knows what a joke is cos he's basically played a practical joke on himself… 🙈😂

I think peanut butter mash would be nice with a really spicy chicken, like a weird sort of play on satay chicken.

MyGodImSoYoung · 11/02/2021 15:04

@Ilovebigmacs Sounds good to me!

This! The joke’s on him Grin

I know!😃 Or did he mean to say "I wasn't serious"?

That would make more sense and different to him saying he made a joke that's turned out to be on himself.

HardcoreParkour · 11/02/2021 15:13

Why do they do it to themselves? 😂

@MyGodImSoYoung your DP may have unwittingly created the next big thing!

I've never even heard of an empire biscuit?! I know what I'm adding to my shopping list now!

Afromeg · 11/02/2021 15:14

Btw, love "HardcoreParkour". Tried to steal it but it's already gone.😔

JackieWeaverIsTheAuthority · 11/02/2021 15:15

I don’t get the joke! Confused who did he think he was tricking?

Afromeg · 11/02/2021 15:15

Uh-oh! OP just noticed your username. 🤣🤣 No wonder!

Squirrel26 · 11/02/2021 15:16

This reminds me of the episode of Father Ted where the Most Sarcastic Priest In Ireland comes to stay and ends up tied up in Father Jack’s laundry basket, and when Dougal asks if he wants to be let out he says ‘no. I really really love it in here.’

So Dougal says ‘OK then’ and leaves him.

(That’s a bit niche. Sorry. Grin )

CassandraCross · 11/02/2021 15:16

I just looked up Empire Biscuits, why have I never heard of them, seen them or eaten them?!? They look delectable.

Afromeg · 11/02/2021 15:19

Ok, something's happened here. I actually thought 'HardcoreParkour' was some sort of exclamation.🤦🏽‍♀️ Now reading it all differently.😁

Bloodypunkrockers · 11/02/2021 15:42

Am I being thick here.

What was the joke? Saying he didn't like them. I don't see how that's funny

I do love empire biscuits though.

Afromeg · 11/02/2021 15:45

Yea I think he meant he wasn't being serious when he said he didn't like them.

HardcoreParkour · 11/02/2021 16:06

@Squirrel26 funnily enough, DH is Irish 🙈

@savanahnana and @CassandraCross empire biscuits are delicious! I highly recommend them!

@Afromeg Hardcore Parkour is from a very funny scene in The Office US 😂

@Bloodypunkrockers yeah, he meant that he wasn't being serious. Seemed pretty serious to me, hence me scoffing the lot!

I think I'm reading it wrong ... Can you explain?
Afromeg · 11/02/2021 16:34

@BaggoMcCoys

I thought this quote from the OP: HardcoreParkour, have you eaten all the cherry bakewell's was him saying something like: "Crikey! Have you eaten all the cherry bakewell's?"

I didn't realise OP's username is HardcoreParkour so I tried to steal the exclamation (as I thought it was) but it was gone. Came here and complained about it just before I noticed OP's name. Then, I realised that quote was simply OP using her username in place of her actual name and her husband didn't actually say "Hardcore Parkour!".

🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️

Afromeg · 11/02/2021 16:36

Thanks @HardcoreParkour Didn't really get into The Office US but I'll have another go at it just for this.Grin

HardcoreParkour · 11/02/2021 16:44

@Afromeg 😂👍🏼

🤣🤣🤣 They're fools and I expected that ending 😃

Fwiw, I do know what parkour is, just never heard 'hardcore parkour'. The rhyming and mental image appealed to me. Didn't expect it to be based on this though 🤣 Thanks @HardcoreParkour for the link.

YABU for introducing me to a new biscuit that looks delicious but appears to be unavailable in England Biscuit
Looks like the only way for me to try them is to make my own!

Funny you should say that, I’m planning to try the recipe on the back of this thread Grin
