Has anyone successfully deterred jackdaws from nesting in the loft?

We moved into this flat in Dec 19, and in spring 2020 realised that jackdaws were nesting in the loft. It was absolutely awful. I didn’t sleep for the entire time.

When pest control came, they fitted a bird mesh but also warned me that they could try and return, as it looked as though they had been there for some time.

I’m now in a state of panic that it happens again this year. Every time I hear a noise I’m twitching.

We had them nesting in our chimneys until we fitted guards to them. They still dropped stuff down for a year or two before eventually giving up.

You could try something scary/ moving in front of the hole.

Shiny windmills, bird kites etc, sonic repellent ? They are unlikely to work in the long term, but could work for long enough that the birds already find a new nest site. After a few years the new site will be the default.

I couldn’t reach it to attach anything. It’s right in the corner, and the loft is only partly floored. I was considering a sonic repeller because I could leave it in the loft but the reviews on Amazon say they’re not worth the money.

They like shiny things, so I'd avoid those anyway.
