PS4 games recommendations?

Hi all

Like everyone, I'm desperately trying to find new things for us to do as a family to stave off the boredom. We have a PS4 but we've never really used it much because I find all the games so tedious: they all seem to be about shooting, racing or football without much imaginative storyline.

I remember really enjoying games from my childhood like 'back to skool' and other things which were a bit more lighthearted. I also used to really like adventure games where you had to solve mysteries etc. Surely things like this must still exist? Please can anyone recommend some games we can play as a family that aren't all about shooting each other in a post apocalyptic world? I'd really appreciate it!

Jackbox - silly multiplayer party games you play using your mobile as a controller. It’s a mixed bag but includes quizzes, drawing and guessing games.

Overcooked and Overcooked 2 - cartoonish co-op multiplayer games where you work together to serve customers in crazy kitchens. Great fun but make sure everyone starts at the same time as the difficulty ramps up as you go along (you start in a normal kitchen and end up trying to cook whilst ice skating, jumping between trucks and navigating a spaceship)

LittleBigPlanet - sure you know of this one already but cute puzzle platformer that can be played as a multiplayer

Crash Team Racing - Crash Bandicoot version of Mario Karts

There’s many games with great storylines, the problem is that they don’t tend to be child-appropriate! The sad truth is that kids are more into gameplay than story, hence why there aren’t loads of age appropriate in depth story options.

For example I think heavy rain was heralded as having an amazing story, but it’s centralised around a serial killer so not appropriate for young teens.

Oh and if you want something really imaginative/insane take it in turns to try and play I Am Bread. It’s not an easy game (the controls take a lot of getting used to) but it’s definitely lighthearted. You play as a piece of bread that wants to become toast 😊

Sackboy: A Big Adventure (or Little Big Planet 3), Everybody’s Golf, Overcooked 2 and Astroneer

Moving out is a brilliant silly multiplayer game. And has assists so it doesn’t get too hard.

Moving Out is a fantastic game, you can even slap the other players.

I love adventure games myself (older style point and click puzzly ones mainly). There aren't many that are multiplayer, but they do make good 'spectator' games. Ones I loved that you can get on PS4 include:

Broken Sword 5 (no need to have played the others).

The Pillars of the Earth (based of the Ken Follett novel).

Grim Fandango Remastered

Everybody's Gone to the Rapture
