Leggy seedlings

Last year my tomato seedlings were very leggy and did not do well when they were eventually planted out. I use a propagated on my window sill. How do I stop this happening this year?

If you want to start sowing seeds at this time of year in UK you need extra lighting to give a longer day length. Good luck

Or buy plants in May

Start later, when potting on do it so that the stem is buried past the cotyledons, south facing window if possible.

Start later and get them outside as early as possible. Window sills are not light enough and too warm generally.

Thanks everyone. That’s helpful - I had no idea about the day length although it makes sense when I stop to think about it
