My friend reckons your allure goes once you are in your 40s

I was pissed off with this sweeping assumption and wondered if she was projecting her own insecurity

Of course youth has a certain prettiness and appeal but I think older women can be very beautiful and attractive

I left mine in a charity shop with my old clothes. Maybe someone else has it.

WTF does anyone care unless they're in their 40's with no kids and no SO?

And who the F thinks anyone tells the truth on dating apps? They're full of delusional liars trying to con other delusional liars into dates, and sex, with the hope that one or other will not be too put out about the lies the other told to get them there.

Does anyone tell the truth online?

At least if you meet a guy in a library, or the supermarket, or the park, you can see he's not lying, and if he's interested then you haven't had to lie to get that far.

Apart from Covid, whatever the fuck happened to chatting to guys, going on a date, and slowing the F down?

ElliFAntspoo · 10/02/2021 19:20

@PickAChew

Most 40+ men aren't all that alluring, tbh.
Lol.
ukgift2016 · 10/02/2021 19:21

Eurgh I'm fed up with these threads.

Self pity and after male attention.

ElliFAntspoo · 10/02/2021 19:21

@Stompythedinosaur

Just as well that 0% of a woman's value is based on being attractive to men, then.

Strangely I don't see any 40 year old men worrying about their allure!

Lol.

Lol.

Came to the wrong place for male attention.
If they can't find it on Tinder, they ain't gonna find it here.

GoudaGirl · 10/02/2021 19:23

t's a bit like charisma I expect and not something anyone can actually tell for themselves surely!

DuvetCaterpillar · 10/02/2021 19:23

I have a small, non-sleeping baby. I might be a catch, but I'm too tired to do anything once I've been caught! Grin

SittinOnTheDockOfTheBay · 10/02/2021 19:25

By allure she perhaps means that naivety that young women have - giving off a vibe of easily taken advantage of. Older men live that.

Titsywoo · 10/02/2021 19:28

Allure? Personally couldn't give a stuff. DH finds me attractive and noone else matters. If he buggers off or dies I will stay single.

Strugglingtodomybest · 10/02/2021 19:30

Allure Grin

Great word

Dutchesss · 10/02/2021 19:31

Gillian Anderson has not lost her 'allure'.

LApprentiSorcier · 10/02/2021 19:32

The little allure I ever had disappeared for good in my mid-30s. But it doesn't bother me.

orientalknife · 10/02/2021 19:32

Of course my worth isn't based on male attention
I'm happily married
However whilst I'm a confident, intelligent and strong woman I'm also still a sexual woman and I resent the idea that older women can't be or feel sexy

I don't need male attention to be happy but I'd also like to think that if I was single and wanting a man then I could damn well get one. I hate this old fashioned idea that you are on the shelf once you are past 35 or whatever

And I'm under no illusion or in any competition with younger women. But I honestly feel more attractive now because I'm comfortable in my skin and more confident

Tell that to
Isabella Rossellini
Reese Witherspoon
Amy Adams
Jennifer Lopez
Kylie
Helen Mirren
Sophia Loren
Kim Cattrall
Julia Roberts
Kate Beckinsale
Halle Berry
Kirsty Wark
Michelle Obama

Not to my taste, but it didn't stop Maggie T either.

NuniaBeeswax · 10/02/2021 19:40

Can't lose what you never had.

grassisjeweled · 10/02/2021 19:43

Smacks of 'come hither'

Snowsnowglorioussnow · 10/02/2021 19:44

My allure is hiding behind rapid growth moustache, several layers of fat, greying white hair and thick bushy eyebrows.

Nothing I can't act on.

HavelockVetinari · 10/02/2021 19:45

Clearly your friend has never seen footage or photos of Jennifer Aniston!

Akrotiri1 · 10/02/2021 19:47

I am 48 and look like shite if that helps.........

TurquoiseDragon · 10/02/2021 19:49

Yes, she is.

Allure has a lot to do with personality, not just looks.

SignsofSpring · 10/02/2021 19:53

Allure is a combination of physically looking nice, being a bit sexy and being an interesting person people want to get to know, in my opinion. You can be alluring at most ages, my grandma found the love of her life at 70 and he found her extremely alluring, in fact we used to joke they were like love birds! My mum has also found love later in life. Allure isn't what young women have anyway, they have freshness, youth, lovely skin, and aren't as adept at being assertive and moving away from creeps. Allure is definitely about confidence and feeling attractive.

If it goes away in your 40's it's probably because you had children in your late thirties. That's why it comes back 50 plus, you have more time to spend on yourself, and doing the things you enjoy!

AdaFuckingShelby · 10/02/2021 20:06

My desire f0r a relationship has definitely gone so my body language must be different. I don't flirt anymore so what allurebi did have is minimised I guess

TheTreeThatSatDown · 10/02/2021 20:11

Allure sounds like a hairspray they would only sell in Pound land. If it's gone it's probably better for us all.

No, it's the opposite

You lose interest in relationships, you get asked out lots!

😂 at Allure as a hairspray name.
