Another stupid question - Life insurance

So the advert where the guy talks to June next door (off topic - I think she is a minx, she always seems to be around when the guy's wife is no where to be seen!).

He tells her he has a number or a couple of these policies/ Are we to assume one for him and one for his invisible wife??? Or can one have more than one policy? I would assume not in the same company but could you have more than one with different ones???

There's nothing to stop someone taking out life insurance with more than company. It's possible that the insurer might ask you when you apply if you have any policies elsewhere, but in general I can't see that meaning cover being declined.

Hopefully, taking out multiple policies with the same insurer is rare. As an actuary working in life insurance I'd have to worry about reserving calculations, to make sure we assume that if you die under one policy you die under the other... Grin

We have three policies each with the same company. Each time we have extended our mortgage we have taken out additional insurance.

We have several, standard one for DH, standard one for me and one which is connected to the mortgage and pays when the first of us dies.

Not unusual, I am also enrolled in one for work, no check if I don't have one already. DH also has a second one if he dies before retirement and the money is paid into a trust for DD's upkeep.

In my circle these are fairly normal scenarios.
