Anyone up? Ovulation pain? Appendix...?? :(

I'm lying in bed with a horrible pain in my lower right abdomen. I've recently come off birth control for the first time in 15 years and I had a few mini periods close together. I distinctly remember going to the school nurse once aged about 17 saying I had a terrible pain in my lower tummy and she said it was ovulation pain and it went away. Does anyone else have ovulation pain that's quite bad? It's not stabbing agony but like a bad period pain on one side. I'm tired Sad

Yes mine is a nagging dull pain. It's not sharp but like an intense ache. It's been quite strong this month but varies.

Hangingover · 10/02/2021 01:49

Thanks grim I'm sure that's all it is but obviously really don't want to go to hospital at the moment so am worrying myself. It's crazy how much it can hurt, I'd totally forgotten!!

I've suffered from ovulation pain for years, it can be really quite sore at times. I can't take the pain anymore so going back on the pill to stop it from happening.

I hear that! I didn't even come off them on purpose I've just not managed to get a new surgery yet. Hopefully it'll all go away and my body will forget about ovulation again!!

I get ovulation pain like that. I think with appendicitis it hurts more if you press down on it, or if you cough? Whereas if it's ovulation massaging it a bit makes it slightly better. Mine also varies from one side to the other depending on which ovary is in use, as it were, but appendicitis is just on the right side. Maybe call 111 just to be on the safe side if the pain gets worse or you start feeling feverish.

Fun fact - it’s called Mittelschmerz. It can be awful, but the intensity varies. Hope you feel better soon.

My ovulation pain was crippling after I had a c section. To the point I couldn't walk and stomach very swollen. Turned out the c section caused adhesions and scar tissue and had damaged my tubes. I lost both tubes to ectopic pregnancies - once they were gone the pain stopped

Yes, what Jimmy said. I don't know about ovulation pain but period cramps if I push down on my stomach it doesn't hurt worse but with appendicitis it was so painful when I did that. Also with appendicitis I had a slight fever and my heart rate was really high.

Thanks lads. It's slightly better this morning, kept me up til 4 though. It doesn't hurt more when I tap it or move so I'm assuming not appendix related. How joyful some of us get to have the crippling pain TWICE a month!!

Yes, it's great, isn't it? Not to mention the iffy bowel stuff - ovulation constipation is a real thing.

SophiaLarsen · 10/02/2021 14:19

I woke up with ovulation pain this morning. Worst in months. Couldn’t move. For me I know it’s ovulation pain is any movement makes it worse and lying still is best. It also doesn’t respond to pain relief for me.

It is normally in the evening for a few hours but being first thing in the morning was appalling today.

Urgh...poor us!! Said to hippy housemate that I couldn't wait to go back on my old pill and get no period again as the pains are debilitating and she urged me not to and told me that period pains are caused by bad emotions. Grin

She might be right! having a horrid time at work at the moment...

Its been a humdinger today, still got it now but not as bad as this morning. Worse if I sit down uncarefully :-(.

I hope yours clears up soon.

I think she's confused cause and effect!

I had ovulation pain every month from puberty to menopause, always on the right side.
When I got appendicitis I felt very ill and it got worse rapidly, not just pain but sickness, high temperature and scared I was dying. Nothing at all like ovulation pain.

DwangelaForever · 10/02/2021 20:45

Every month since I was around 16 I've played this game lol appendicitis or ovulation. Now I've had 2 c sections I've also added adhesion pain to this list. The joys. Grin
