Has anyone had an immobile breast lump that WASN’T cancer?

Has anyone had a breast lump that didn’t move about that turned out NOT to be cancer?

I found a lump in my breast that I couldn’t move about 2 weeks ago and was seen in the breast clinic yesterday. The surgeon who initially saw me was very stoical about it and didn’t really comment either way, but did state it didn’t move around in the breast tissue. I then had a scan where the radiologist was very reassuring and said she thought it was likely a fibroadenoma, reporting it as a U2 on ultrasound. However, as I’m over 25 they did a biopsy which I’ll get the results of next week.

I know I should be reassured by the radiologist’s opinion, but I’ve got a bit fixated on the surgeon agreeing it didn’t move as that’s usually not a feature of a benign breast lump. I’m 27 with no family history, so I know the statistics are in my favour. However, I’m a brand new junior doctor and of course I’m allowing my (very small amount of!!) knowledge on the subject to scare me. Have any of you ladies had an immovable lump that turned out to be fibroadenoma or another benign change? Would love to hear anyone’s stories, or just a handhold if anyone can spare it as I’m a wuss and the wait for results feels very long.

Yes, a fibroadenoma. Three years after biopsy I had it removed as it had grown and there was increased vascularisation.
At the fist ultrasound combined with biopsy, the radiologist who did the biopsy said it didn’t feel like cancer while she was collecting the samples. Still I had a shitty week while waiting for results

I'd take comfort from the fact the radiologists have a pretty good idea of what they see.

In my case, they knew right away that there was a problem.

Waiting is definitely the worst time. UnMN hugs.

I had a fibroadenoma at about your age. I was very stressed because it appeared not long after I had a baby and I was exhausted too. It was fine and I've never had another one.

I also had a fibroadenoma in my twenties. I had a lumpectomy and then a biopsy, so I had to wait all that time to hear it was benign! Was a stressful time Flowers

I had a fibroadenoma when I was about 18/19 (I’m 61 now).
It was immobile, about an inch or so long and felt as though it was ‘fixed’ to my chest wall (it was at the bottom of my breast, where the breast joins the body).
I was examined by a consultant who declared it was a fibroadenoma, no blood test/ultrasound/biopsy and that was that.
I had it for quite a while but it eventually disappeared.
Handhold and Flowers for you. Waiting is horrible.

Thank you for all your stories, and I hope you are well now DuckyMcDuck. I've been doing fairly well but had a massive wobble last night! Thanks all.

I have. It was just fatty tissue

Whenwillow · 10/02/2021 18:27

I have as well. The waiting is awful and we do all think think the worst, but my fixed lump was fibroadenoma. I had ultrasound and needle biopsy, then under GA for a partial removal of the lump as they still weren't sure, but I was fine and that was 12 years ago.
Thinking of you and really hope it turns out to be something benign Flowers

I had a fibroadenoma too, I was in my late 20's. I had an ultrasound scan and a biopsy. It seems to have disappeared by itself nearly 10 years on. The week of waiting was awful though. Best wishes to you Thanks

Petricor · 20/02/2021 12:01

Thanks for all the replies - it was a fibroadenoma! Just popping back as I have read every thread on the internet while waiting for results and wanted to post my good outcome in case anyone waiting for results in the future finds the thread and it helps to reassure them Grin

Yep.it was fat.

90 per cent of breast lumps are harmless.

Whenwillow · 20/02/2021 14:54

That's wonderful news @Petricor. I was hoping you'd update Flowers

Congratulations on your news! You’re going to be great at understanding what it’s like for patients who have to wait for news... I found that the hardest part of my cancer experience.
