The latest issue with DHin hospital, can you help?

People have been so helpful.

He's still in hospital, still very confused but a bit more lucid if you catch him at the right time.

However, he's managed to lock himself out of his iPhone.

The McMillian nurse, who admitted IT is not her thing, says it's asking for his Apple ID. I don't use Apple and haven't a clue. DS1 has managed to get into his apple account using some guesswork, but to unlock it needs to get into his work emails, which none of us can do.

DH has his work laptop with him, a week ago he was using it and checking emails from his hospital bed, but now doesn't seem to be able to open it. He's getting very cross with himself because he can't make it do what he wants.

So our only way to contact him is via the bedside phone, which is extortionate and most annoyingly has a long message, which you're paying for, before you even get put through to the phone. Plus we can't send him texts etc. Which has been a way to let him know we're thinking of him (whether he knows it or not) when he hasn't been well enough to talk.

Any ideas how we get this phone unlocked?

Can you get his work (or email provider) to set up a forwarding address so his work emails come to you?

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 09/02/2021 18:57

Is it his work phone if he's getting work emails on it? Can his employer help perhaps?

Rufus27 · 09/02/2021 18:57

Can’t help, but will give this a bump Flowers

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 09/02/2021 18:59

Does he have the power lead for the laptop? If I can't remember my apple ID my work email account is linked and I get an email.

MichelleScarn · 09/02/2021 19:00

Is it the password you need or to work out the apple id? Could it be linked to apple pay and the bank account that funds it? Also as pp have said if its a work one could they have set up the default email as a work one?

Livy178 · 09/02/2021 19:00

Can you phone his network provider and explain the situation

FoxInSocks2 · 09/02/2021 19:01

Can you just pick up a cheap handset he can use instead? Pay as you go? Might be better if its super simple anyway.

Toorapid · 09/02/2021 19:01

Yes he has the power lead and DS has done the thing to get the email sent, but DH needs help to get in to the laptop and his email. There doesn't seem to be anyone at the hospital who can help him.

Toorapid · 09/02/2021 19:02

Yes it is the work email he needs to get into. I don't think they'll give me access.

I think best thing is probably just to send in a cheap phone (or an old one you’ve got hanging around?)

Sadly I imagine all the hospital staff will be too busy to help with things like this

Flowers for you

SandlakeRd · 09/02/2021 19:06

I wonder if it would be easier if you can afford it to get a new phone, make sure it is set up and ready to go and then drop it off to the ward?

Toorapid · 09/02/2021 19:07

I know everyone in hospital is very busy, but I do think they should be able to help patients keep in touch with those outside while visiting restrictions are in place. That just seems basic humane treatment to me.

bloodywhitecat · 09/02/2021 19:08

Do you mean his laptop is password protected so he can't get past the first screen?

FredaFox · 09/02/2021 19:09

Agree with other posters, send him an old/cheap handset
I can’t imagine his work giving you access to his work emails due to gdpr
If they are accommodating his manager could gain access through hr and forward the reset emails to you but if it’s a work phone they may not want to do that

BabbleBee · 09/02/2021 19:09

Do you now know his Apple ID and password?

Toorapid · 09/02/2021 19:09

I don't know. He's not able to explain what the issue is, just that he can't make it do what he wants it to do.

OP posts:
Toorapid · 09/02/2021 19:10

Yes, we have the Apple ID and password

OP posts:
BabbleBee · 09/02/2021 19:11

His Apple ID will probably be his iCloud email address. I don’t think you can unlock it remotely.

Soontobe60 · 09/02/2021 19:11

I agree, send him in a bog standard payg phone with your number in and no passcode.
Unfortunately trying to get into his phone could be construed as illegal

I have massive sympathy that you can’t easily contact him but IT for a non hospital item is not in their job description especially in these stricken times. They have enough on their plate right now
Send him in a cheap phone, it’s your quickest fix in a difficult situation

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 09/02/2021 19:12

Sadly I think expecting the medical staff to sort out IT issues is a little unreasonable and prove to making things worse if they don't know what they are doing.

Getting him a cheap easy to operate android phone with no complicated IDs sounds like the best solution, get a contract for a £5er a month, set up his contacts and off he goes.

DogsSausages · 09/02/2021 19:12

When my relative was in hospital for a while they were given free incoming calls and free local outgoing calls on their bedside unit. Does he need work emails while he is in hospital, do work know he is in hospital.

BIWI · 09/02/2021 19:13

Perhaps he should take this as a sign that he needs to take a break from work?! I'm a bit shocked that despite his illness/condition, he still feels he should be working.

Toorapid · 09/02/2021 19:14

Yes work know he's in hospital. No he doesn't need work email.

No one has suggested free bedside calls could be a possibility.

OP posts:
Toorapid · 09/02/2021 19:15

He doesn't want access to lap top to work! He needs it so he can unlock the phone. He has the laptop because he needed to do his tax return, which he did successfully 2 weeks ago. It's been a very rapid decline.
