How did you feel when you put an offer in to buy a house?

Did anyone else experience a slight feeling of panic after you put an offer in on a house?

Yesterday morning we put an offer in on a house. Lovely house but needs a lot of work (probate house). Weve put in a 90% offer which is within our budget but don't have high expectations that the owners will accept.

Obviously trying to not get too carried away because they are likely to decline. However I'm suddenly feeling a bit overwhelmed by the level of renovation the house needs.

Did anyone else feel the same?

Yes totally! I think it's normal. It's such a huge commitment. Also when I got the keys to my first place and moved in I got quite overwhelmed and cried quite a bit- combination of stress and relief it was done and the realisation that I had really done it!

@familychallenge that's a relief. I'm excited yet also overwhelmed

I always feel like that when making a big commitment - house, job, getting married, having a baby but i think that’s quite normal

Anxious about whether it would be accepted. That said I’m quite jaded now because we’ve made lots of offers (one accepted, vendors pulled out due to illness 5 months later just before exchange), all others 5-12% over guide price and none even close to being accepted.

I hated every second of the house buying process. I was an anxious mess. I was a FTB and vendor wasn't buying a new house so it was about as easy and uncomplicated as it could possibly be but still, I was a wreck.

I am beginning to suspect that I'll stay in my too small for my growing DC house forever (and never move in with DP even though I want to) because the thought of having to improve my house sufficiently for selling and then trying to buy another house and the possibility of being in a chain makes me feel utterly sick with worry and I think I might actually have a nervous breakdown 😳.

Am SO envious of people who take these kinds of massive life events in their stride.

Fingers crossed for you OP 🤞

Exactly this, I think when you are doing something so life changing there's a little emotional explosion in you, and your body doesn't quite know how to react to it. Totally natural.

Yes, felt both panicky and overwhelmed. It took about six months after moving to feel completely okay about it all.

Yes! It's totally normal and each stage of the process presents something new to panic about. But it's worth it in the end Good luck
